How to pair bluetooth speaker with google home app?

wwwgoog

For the life of me I can't figure out how to simply connect my Home app to a bluetooth speaker. I have the latest app, but when I click "add device and then speaker" it searches and fails. The speaker is in pairing mode and works for other devices. Please explain in step by step how this is possible.

Thank you

What brand/model of speaker is it? You can't use Bluetooth by itself to add a device to the Home app, that's not how it works. The Google Home app manages Google Home and Google Nest speakers or third party speakers with Google Assistant built-in. If your speaker doesn't have Google Assistant built-in, you won't be able to add it to the Google Home app.

That makes a lot of sense, I wish google was more clear about such things. I'll probably look into the JBL Link which has assistant built in. My speaker is just a generic BT one from Amazon. Thanks so much for the info, I was wasting a lot of time trying to pair it.

No problem at all! Here's a link to one's that have Google Assistant built-in:

@wwwgoog, were you able to pair your speakers using the steps posted above? Let us know if you have additional questions and I'd be happy to answer it for you.

I don't have "google assisted" speakers to test yet, I may buy a google nest in the future. I don't care for google assistant to be honest, but I would like to pair speakers with my Chromecast. The speakers I currently have are just normal bluetooth, non google assist type.

Hi wwwgoog,

Thanks for clarifying. May we know what Chromecast device are you using?

Best,

Princess

That's another very difficult thing to find, but Amazon said its a V3 grey round version. Maybe it's on the device, if it's not a V3 I'll report back the correction.
