The nest is showing offline in the android app as well as the web based interface. I checked the actual nest device and it shows online and connected. I can see it connected via the Google Wifi app and just now I opened google home and see two nest devices one show offline and the other can connect to the nest device.

My thermostat is offline

Hello

I am trying to add a 34rd Thermostat model E and i cannot get the "Key" because there is no Nest App option on Setting

I have two nest thermostats, one at home and one at our lake house which is 4+ hours away. The lake house decided to show offline yesterday while I was there. Thermostat says it is connected to the wifi and to my Google account. Had to leave while it was offline. Still hasn't come back on line, but had a status update from the thermostat at 8:00 this morning. This app has more bugs than a cricket factory. Really liked the Nest app with our first thermostat. Google forced the home app on that one also. They could stand taking a few lessons from nest.

I'm having this problem repeatedly. My Nest is from 2011 but never gave me problems before.

And... I tried someone else's suggestion to remove the thermostat then re-add (after a hard reset). It connected briefly but now it's back offline again. The thermostat itself says it's online. Thanks for nothing (and all my schedules have to be redone).

My Nest thermostat is working but the android app shows offline . I've tried restart, reboot phone, wifi fine, cked all the responses fr the community. No luck. What is the solution?

I have been having problems with both the thermostat and Blink cameras going offline at our cabin. Both are online right now and have seemed to stabilize. The one change I made was to change the AP from auto channel selection to a fixed channel. Use a wifi analyzer to see what things look like in your environment. Blink has to be on 2.4, not sure about the Nest.

I just tried to set my thermostat to eco when away from home but the app said offline. As soon as I walked in the house it said everything was fine on the app... How can I fix this? Why did it happen?

I have the same problem. My thermostat was actually offline for a while and couldn't see my modern fast wifi network. I did a factory reset but now it has the issue that so many others have reported here. The thermostat says it's connected, but the ios app shows offline but intermittently shows as online.

I was having problems with both my Nest thermostat and Blink cameras repeatedly going offline. I changed my AP from auto channel to a fixed channel (happens to be channel 1) and have not seen either go to offline since. I begin to think their software has issues finding the the AP when it is auto channel mode and decides to change channels.

Good luck!

Seems like this is an on going problem. Google why have I invested so much money in this system for it not to work half the time.

I'll try the guest network idea.

I am having same problem. New thermostat as of October. Device is online and battery fine but app says offline. Seriously is Google even going respond to everyone on this thread? Am very concerned. I am about to leave for a long trip and we got this thermostat to be able to monitor house temperature.

If you’ve the option of returning and replacing it for a different brand I’d suggest doing that. Google aren’t interested in fixing this, it’s been a long, long term problem. It’s clear they don’t value their customers

It's 118F here now, really concerned that cooling might fail which would be lethal. Terrible support from Google on this

UPDATE: My issues was resolved by creating a 2.4ghz guest network and using it for the thermostat. Seems that there may be an issue with wifi6 dual-band networks

I noticed that my reply to this thread apparently was lost in the migration. I changed the AP setting to a fixed channel (1 in my case), rather than letting the AP select the channel dynamically. Since then, I have not seen the offline issue, other than brief periods when both my Blink cameras and the Nest thermostat went offline together. This seemed to be an actual ISP problem, as they both recovered at roughly the same time.  I would suggest that if you are experiencing this issue, try changing the AP to a fixed channel.

I had a number of problems between the thermostat and Blink cameras going offline. I changed the router from auto channel selection to a fixed channel, which happened to be 1 in my case. Have not seen the offline problem recur again.

Same issues fix : removed thermostat from app and reinstalled it. Solved for now we’ll see how it works

The thermostat is asking for a password and the app just flipped me over to Google home.  So am I entering my gmail password on the Nest?  I spent an hour trying to reset the stupid thing.  What good is it if you can't control it???

We all have same issue but no one from Nest offering any fix.

Was there ever an answer?  My iOS app just started doing this today. I scrolled this list and didn’t see anything besides restart-which doesn’t work

I never got a definitive fix from anyone really. Tried all of those on web. Forgetting the network worked for me, mine just started not connecting with the app out of the blue too.
For now mine appears to be working, but it’s at a vac house and I’m afraid to try anything with it for fear I won’t be able to turn it off via the app.  I think the fix is in the router/IPhone settings more than the Nest itself.  Not too versed in router settings.  Sorry I can’t help more. Hopefully Nest people can find the issue

As a desperate measure, have you removed Nest long enough for it to fully power down, then put it back?  Dunno if that would even do anything.  Believe me I feel your frustration, I was there too and may be again..

how do I remove Near?!

I’m afraid mine still doesn’t work. Inside temp reading 65 when it’s 47 outside and no heat having been on. That’s not right.  Hey Nest, App issue?  This issue just started -  been working for years.

It still says offline on my phone!

I can manually change it.

I removed the thermostat from the app, then on the thermostat did Settings > Reset > Account Connection, then re-added to the app. This reconnected it without losing my history/schedules etc

I have done that at least four times. that helps for about a day

on iOS 16.4.1 NEST thermostat app now states Offline with a grey screen, check technical info for battery and this is 9.6volts, reset app by deleting and re-install, reset router , reset thermostat to factory settings, the only thing I can think it must be the app not being app dated , What happened to 'contact us' and speaking to someone, rather than writing a long winded comment to probably not get a reply for an expensive thermostat !

  • I can’t tell you how many times I have reinstated the app and done the whole restart only to have it go off-line again a day later. I don’t have this thermostat very long. The battery is fine and the app is up-to-date.

That’s what happened to me.
It’s been more than 2years now. Ugh.

Horrible. How can AC companies continue to install this garbage?? And Home Depot etc still sell it. Fraud. And the number for support has been disconnected and you are sent to online with no help.

so after  extensive testing this afternoon , factory reset the nest thermostat and heat link , deleted app as well , reset router for 10 mins with it off, Setup nest with a IP reservation on router , the app or nest does not connect the the Internet , it all connects if you hotspot your phone to the nest and works fine , which is redicolous as most phones are on home wifi , there must be a bug with the google nest service, worked fine until new iOS update came out or firmware on nest at my guess is degraded !!

So I cracked it today and set up” home assistant” app for nest , you have to join several things on Google and pay $5 for lifetime and to gain an api key   from them , suggest reading up on it all before you decide , very involved but worked a treat , all working and better than the app as well , you can run your whole smart home from it better than apple home and supports almost everything inc nest , apple doesn’t support it , home  assistant does , good luck ,
