The nest is showing offline in the android app as well as the web based interface. I checked the actual nest device and it shows online and connected. I can see it connected via the Google Wifi app and just now I opened google home and see two nest devices one show offline and the other can connect to the nest device.

Tap the Thermostat on its side and look for settings, scroll around till you find factory reset on the Thermostat, then hit yes, you have to reinstall it on your phone app after tho, it took me 5 to 10 minutes to fix the problem its easy

Just to add to the above.

You will lose all your temperature settings schedule.
Make a note of them before hand.

I did that yesterday and it’s offline again today. I think you got lucky, but it’s no real fix.

I've performed a Factory Reset twice now on mine but the issue keeps returning after a short while...been going on months now...

Same here. Repeated factory resets is not a solution.

I’m having this same issue.   Nothing I do is working.

But it did take me awhile at first to figure it out lol

I continued to have this issue with the Nest being online some of the time in my app (and via the browser on my laptop), and then offline.  I decided to purchase an ecobee thermostat and swap it in.  I have had no problem with wifi connectivity with the ecobee, so I know it's not a problem with my wifi signal strength for the location.

Thanks for your advice.

I wonder if you can get a refund or partial refund from nest as it’s not fit for purpose.
Just a thought. 🙂

I've been having this issue for the last few weeks.  I've done a restart and a factory reset twice now and it seems to work for a few hours/days and then all of a sudden I'll leave the house for a few hours and come home and it won't recognize that I'm back until I walk past the Nest itself and it finally recognizes I'm there again.  The app shows offline (therefore not recognizing that I'm home again) but the Nest itself is online and functioning.  No errors in either the app or the Nest itself.  Please help!

Besides the factory reset did u delete the app and reinstall it along with factory reset, unplug from wall and replace batteries?

Delete app first

Take thermostat off wall and replace batteries, then factory reset, then reinstall ghome app set up thermostate on phone

I didn't have to do any of that. Just reset the stat that wasn't connecting

Yeah well thats what I had to do cause mine wouldn't connect, so I treated it like Brand new

What type of batteries does it use?

Mine takes 2 AAA in the back

Sadly there is still no permanent fix. And what’s more no comments from Google nest about the issue.

Near is offline. Even with WiFi working, can’t get nest to work and house is very cold. How do I get it connected and working

Have you guys had continual problems with the Nest? Is it worth having it instead of a conventional thermostat. I saw the benefits, but thus far, it has been more trouble than it is worth.

I have had my Nest for some time now and other than this issue, which did resolve and has not reoccurred, have never had any issues. The system has done a good job for us.

That's why I saved my old thermostat just incase I was having a problem, I could just hook up my old one in a pinch and get back to the nest later if needed.

We tried the reset multiple times, but the display kept saying that the battery had no charge. Tried charging it, but no luck. Any advice?

Also having this issue. Any fixes?? I think there’s something wrong with the app

This first occurred to me a few weeks ago and I resolved by factory resetting. It’s happened again yesterday. Frustrating that I have to do this repeatedly.

Having the same issues: actual thermostats are working, but the app says OFFLINE. The reason I installed these thermostats was to be able to control temperatures without having to actually go to the thermostats. The most frustrating part is all of these complaints on this platform and no one from Google or anywhere helps to resolve!

I was able to resolve, at least temporarily.  I had to remove the thermostat from my Google account and then re-add it from scratch.  This fixed it for about 3 weeks until the thermostat then displayed a message that the Wi-Fi password had changed.  Which I knew it had not but was able to rejoin it again and it has been functioning for about a week.

Thx for the advice. We had a heating and air guy come. He said our nest was inoperable and replaced it with a traditional thermostat. We had the nest less than a year. We are going to try to get a refund or replacement

  • I agree for such a critical devise, you would think there is a support from Google to comment on resolving this issue; I have just noticed this issue when trying to put the Heat On;  I had no issues in the past with this devise; I noticed the Software was updated automatically on Nov 2, by Google! I am suspecting a problem with the latest software update.

Regarding the response from mylife1031 I'm having the same problem however my wife has an iphone and connected her phone to the thermostat with out any issues - why is that possible when I can not??

After texting with Google support again it seems clear that this issue relates to router settings. What I finally did was set up a guest Wi-Fi network and connect the nest thermostat to that. I hesitate to say it but the connection to the app has been stable for 5 days now.

Same! All of our Nest devices on all of our phones are "offline" while they themselves say they are connected. I can only control it with Google Home and other apps now; never had this issue before. Disconnected and reconnected the thermostat from internet, reset it, nothing works. Wiring has always been fine. Fix please!

I have spent an hour or so with Nest technical support with no resolution to this problem; I contacted my Spectrum tech support to see whether the problem is with the ISP; the tech support performed diagnostics on the Modem and his recommendation is to replace the Router! Finally, I contacted t-mobile to replace the Provided Router, because, all their diagnostics on the router failed to correct the problem! One last suggestion was to reset the router to its manufacturer settings and to creat a new network. This did the trick; I was able to connect to Nest thermostat. So far, it is working.
I suggest contacting Nest tech support and hopefully you will get a very thorough and patient technician to help; The described procedures online is Not adequate to test your thermostat. They can not troubleshoot your router if it is the cause of the bad connection.
I had a 2nd Honeywell thermostat on the 2nd floor; it was working properly; I had other devices connected to the same network; they were working fine! There is a limitation on the number of devices connected to any router; My router is 5 years old, and it could have been the issue.

Checked today, and I'm finally connected after many days of waiting (not sure when it actually first came back). Hopefully it stays online.

As far as I'm aware, we didn't do anything different... weird.

I created a separate guest wifi on my router, connected the thermostat to that and it's been working correctly for several weeks now. Only thing that has worked long term.

Same issue here, app constantly switching to offline status when thermostat is actually online. when the app comes back online the temp set on the app overrules the temp on the thermostat which results in the heating switching on overnight… very annoying. This make the thermostat pretty much useless, any fixes?

Same issue here, the App (mobile/web) shows offline when the thermostat shows connected/online. I've tried

  • Factory-reset
  • Deleted "Home" from Google Home and reconfigured all devices from scratch
  • Assigned static IP to the thermostats

but no luck yet. I have installed 3 out of 7 thermostats that I bought. All of them are having the same issue. I would have to return them all if I don't find a solution before the return deadline.
