No Nest app notifications on Pixel 8

Moving from a Pixel 7 to Pixel 8, I do not receive any notifications from any of my Nest devices through the Nest app. I still receive the notifications on my Pixel 7 and my wife who has a Pixel 8 receives them also, so the app is pushing them.

I have done a hard reset on the Pixel 8 and I have verified all the notification settings are correct in the Nest app.

UPDATE: Notifications just suddenly started working. No idea why

Hey folks,

 

I have a quick update from the support team. They’re asking everyone to try the additional steps below:

 

  • Disable and then re-enable notification permissions via Android app settings (long-hold Nest app icon > App info > Permissions).
  • Toggle notifications off in the Nest app, wait 60 seconds, and re-enable.


If the issue persists, for those who haven't done so already, please provide the following details so we can investigate further:

 

  • Make and model of all the mobile devices used to test.
  • Android OS version.
  • Nest app version. 

Let me know how it goes.

I am experiencing the same thing after moving from pixel 6 to pixel 8. I have uninstalled the app, reinstalled, logged out and then back in but this has had no effect.  I turned on the option to receive notifications by email and received only one and then that stopped. My pixel 6 still receives the push notifications. Suggestions?

I have had this issue since getting my Pixel 8 Pro a week ago. I transferred across everything from my P7P and everything was fine  with the exception of Nest/Google Home notifications.

I was messing with settings, notifications, everything you can think of to no avail. Because I had already set up my banking apps, GPay, and Pixel Watch, I really didnt want to do a hard factory reset and do a brand new install (ie, no previous data transferred).

I did this and within two days I had Nest notifications appearing on my P8P and my Pixel Watch (camera motions, nest doorbell alerts, sound alerts...)

Hopefully a factory reset will do the same for you.

Further note.  I can receive email notifications but not push notifications.  Long story short, after a lot of experimentation on my Pixel 6, Pixel 8 and iPad (works on iPad but neither of the pixels), I came to the conclusion that the issue was a result of the upgrade to Android 14.  After spending an hour on the phone with Google Nest support and having them double check all of the settings I had already checked, support came to the same conclusion that I reached.  A bug (ticket) has been entered.  Hopefully a solution is coming soon.

But my wife pixel 7 pro gets notifications on android 14

If it is like my experience, don't let her log out. When I logged out and then back in, I lost push notifications.

Ya she hasn't, but I guess I'll wait for an update from nest for the Pixel 8 pro. Please keep me updated.

Just upgraded and activated my Pixel 8 Pro from Pixel 6 Pro. I'm having the same issue, no Nest Notifications on the P8P. Notifications are still working on my P6P. Hope a fix is coming. 

Google and nest don't have a fix, this is ridiculous Google.

Already spent an hour on the phone with Google support just repeating what I had already done and what you have suggested. The solution is not going to be as easy as the steps you suggest. 

Do you have any other suggestions that an hour call to Google support would not have covered.

Take in mind my wife's has a pixel 7 pro and android 14 and nest app 5.72.1.4 and she gets all the notifications still.

P6 with Android 14 Nest 5.72.1.4 - worked after the upgrade to 14 until I logged out of the Nest app and logged back in

BTW, IMO, I think the key is the log out/log in sequence.  Something not reconnecting...

Lance. This has not fixed it.

Works on partner's pixel 7. Not on mine as per many others.. all across the forums and Reddit. There's even articles about it now online.

I've reached out to support. No help as yet. Told me to check my notifications. Both home and nest are on. Then to reset notifications. Didn't work. Reinstall apps etc. nothing. Check allow was on in do not disturb. Both on.

£950 phone. £150 nest. £90 installation. This kinda sucks. It's quite clearly a development issue that needs to be addressed. Appreciate it may not be on their road map. But a lot of people are paying a monthly fee and can't even get the notifications. It's poor.

Can you see if there's been any acknowledgement or progress made?

Confirmed not fix on pixel 8 pro. Got the run around from support, they ping ponged me 5 times between the same 2 teams. I don't think they're that organized .

Apparently the only fix I've seen that people have said that worked was to do a full factory reset, and then not use "restore" and select as creating a new phone. You'll have to customize everything and lose all data. So, that kind of sucks.

thought about doing that - but I have a work profile I can't easily ask for access to again. there needs to be a better solution.

I'm not factory resetting my phone to get nest notifications, that's not a fix. Google & Nest Dev team can fix it!!

Yeah I'm sure they can fix it, but are they willing to fix it is the problem. I don't understand every time I switch Pixels there's always something wrong. Makes me wonder if I should just start new every time I upgrade and not back up from a previous phone.

I love the phone. Android in general and most of the house is android stuff, but they have really pee'd me off with this. Along with a repair, because there was a scratch on the side of the phone, in the UK they made me replace the entire front for a seperate issue to the sum of £180. Cosmetic issue apparently.

Not had an iPhone since the iPhone 4, but I'm tempted to go back and get on applecare + move a lot of stuff away. It's just the support function of android is typically so slow or cuts a load of corners. Reading online, this has been 3-4 months and it's not been looked at. How bad is that? *moan over*

Doesn't work. I have pixel 8 pro. Nest app version 5.76.0.8

Latest Android os 14 and May 1st 2024 security patch as well. No notifications popup on my pixel 8 pro after 3 hours on the phone with nest support. I was told this is not a nest app issue but pixel phone team's issue. Said sorry and hung up on me. 

 

And works fine on my wife's pixel 6 pro with android 14.

I have also had this issue since I bought the Pixel 8 Pro in February. It worked fine on the Pixel 5 and my girlfriend's Pixel 7 Pro. I tried everything (also 15 emails back and forth with Nest support).

This exact problem is still occurring for me new Pixel 8, nest doorbell wired. very disappointed.  Support told me that its known issue with Pixel 8s.

 

My partner has a pixel 8, works fine on her device.

It may not be what you want to hear, but for me, all problems got resolved when I did a complete factory reset without (!!!) restoring any backup. So complete fresh install of my phone. It's not any guarantee, but I read it worked for a couple of people, and it also worked for me.

 

Was it worth it? Yes. Was it okay that I needed to do this? Definitely not. My next cameras will not be Nest's.

Addition: you can, of course, argue if this is a Pixel bug, and not a Nest bug. But in the end, no other apps have this problem, and both Nest and Pixel are owned by Google.

Factory reset worked. Yep it's a pain and it didn't work straight away either. It started to work after about 3hrs. So frustrating this entire experience
