Terrible customer support

A few months before Christmas, Google released an update to the Google home app which appears to have made the Chromecast gen 1 devices show as offline in the app. I raised this through the appropriate channels, raised tickets, followed all the usual steps etc, to no resolve. numerous tickets raised in all departments over the last few months, however, I seem to be getting nowhere and in fact, am all but being completely ignored.

I am constantly being told that Google no longer offer support for the gen 1 devices, which is totally acceptable, I'm also told this is 'degradation' but the devices themselves are functioning fine, other than in the Google home app which I suspect is the issue. I genuinely believe now, that your developers have altered the software in the hopes that many other customers, myself included will throw away these perfectly fine and functioning devices and spend more money on newer versions.

I understand these gen 1 devices are now classed as legacy items, and understand that they no longer receive updates etc, but surely it's not acceptable for your company to essentially render them unfit for purpose, merely by changing the coding in the Google home app .Again, I'm told this is due to their degradation, however I'm sure you'll agree that numerous devices all showing the same issue at exactly the same time is more than coincidental.

As a customer of Google one and paying for so called support, I have no other option but to contact you in the hopes you may be able to get some form of resolve for me.

Hi @Jimbob64

I've not seen a widespread issue matching the symptoms you describe here in community as of late. There are all manner of reasons why a device could show as offline in the Google Home app, irrespective of the age of the device if I'm being honest. With that all said, unfortunately Chromecast (1st gen) has been end of support for quite a while now, so Google won't offer support I'm afraid.

I have quite a lot of experience in technology and it, I've tried every possible workaround to bring this back into the app to no avail. The fact the gen1 Chromecasts are no longer supported for updates themselves isn't an issue in itself, but the fact that Google refuse to maintain their integration into the Google app I think, personally, is absolutely disgraceful. A complete failing of their customers in a vein attempt to get them to spend more money to buy newer versions.

I've had many terrible excuses from this so called tech superpower, degradation - utter rubbish, all my devices are working fine, and even if it were failing if the hardware the likelihood of them all failing at the same time is remote to the point of impossible.

The fact remains, through changing code in their controlling app, IE Google home, they have impeded the functions of these devices, rendering them almost unfit for purpose, it's a massive failing and their terrible customer service and lack of will to rectify this update issue only heightens the frustration.
