I’m having this exact problem. Also, even when I type 1 letter, the member I’m trying to invite doesn’t appear in the list of possible names.

I can’t copy or paste an email address on n that field. Can’t type a full email address either. Only option is to scan an email address and when I try that, the app crashes.

That's what another customer in this forum reported they did. You could try deleting and reinstalling the Google Home app. If that doesn't work, perhaps you need to try contacting Support:

Deleting and readding the app does not solve the problem. Message says “can’t send invite now. Try again”. We contact support and they said to do the same thing, which also didn’t help …

"Can't send invite now" also happens to be the less-than-helpful message that displays if you try to invite someone who does NOT have a gmail account into your household.

P.S. I am able to add family with an iPad. The issue is only with the iPhone.

Thank you for sharing the details of the issue you are experiencing with adding a home member to the Google Home app. I appreciate the help provided by MplsCustomer. To confirm, are you using and inviting a personal Gmail account? Also, have you tried using a different phone/tablet?

No, it’s a Google account but not Gmail. It makes it really difficult and I wish this was not how it was designed.
It would have been really nice to know while we were setting things up initially, and also that the support person we spent about an hour with didn’t have any idea - and said it was an update causing the issue. 🤷♀️

Hey Lailaa,
Sorry to hear about your experience. If you're using a workspace account you will not be able to invite a home member because it's not supported. This is because of the added security settings on your account, that's why we recommend using a personal Gmail account to enjoy the full functionalities of the Google Home/Nest devices.

Having the same issue - on an iPhone. I don’t have an iPad. Support couldn’t help and said to wait a day. I did. Still unable to add a family member. They said to wait for updates?? Not happy with the way this is going.
