I have four 1st gen camera devices which were purchased in 2020:
2 x Nest Cam IQ outdoor cameras
1 x Nest Cam IQ indoor camera
1 x Nest Hello doorbell
I have Google Home public preview enabled and "moved" them to the Home app several months ago. Since then I have had a lot of trouble livestreaming from them and the doorbell is quite useless for responding to someone ringing it - they have gone before I can stream / communicate with them.
I read that using a 2.4Ghz wifi network is recommended for better signal strength and therefore reset one of my Nest Cam IQ outdoors last week to reset it up / ensure it is on the 2.4GHz wifi and not the 5GHz. So I went through the process of adding it back into Google Home - the camera was flashing blue - but the app could not find it. Trying to add it in the Nest app gave me a message that it had been transferred to the Home app and to use that. I opened a support case with Google (0-0131000038583) but they could not resolve the issue so the case was closed.
Yesterday, I selected the option in the Nest app to port my other Nest Cam IQ outdoor back to Nest...a process which I was informed would take 30 minutes. But it failed and now I cannot get any response from that camera in either app.
So now I have two non-responsive Nest Cam IQ outdoors, a fairly useless doorbell and a fairly slow Nest Cam IQ indoor. I invested a lot of money for these products not so long ago and am very disapointed to now find myself in this situation where they are mostly only good for the bin. The support for the 1st Gen products is very weak; it is like they are unofficially no longer supported.
I call on Google to assist customers like me with some sort of promotion code to obtain a discount on replacement cameras. This may help restore confidence in the brand which I have supported by purchasing many Pixel phones, Nest protects, wifi and cameras over several years. Leaving the Google ecosystem is difficult, but not impossible.
