I've been a customer of Nest for 5 years, and have been extremely pleased with their products. I have 5 first gen Nest cams and doorbell with the full Nest Aware 60 day subscription. However, the future does not look bright for Google Nest.
I purchased an additional set of cameras and doorbell for a second home, this time purchasing the 2nd generation of cameras/doorbell requiring Google Home. I have the Nest Aware 60 day subscription. Perhaps Google doesn't recognize my Nest subscription, but it shows correctly in my Google account.
The cameras are installed and wired, however:
- None of the cameras provide the advertised 24/7 video history. I can only see the live video, or the event recorded during initial setup. To test, I wired an outdoor cam and left it running for 24 hours. It recorded nothing. I can view live video, but the history is completely empty.
- Wired doorbell doesn't record 24/7 either, just event based.
I know the doorbell has been intentionally neutered because of poor heat design, so I will be returning it. To my dismay, even the regular cameras are now no better than a cheap battery-powered event-only system that everyone else provides.
Nest used to be an excellent offering. It did what it advertised and provided high quality products/services. The Nest app is intuitive, and allows easy access to your video history. Google Home is an oversimplification to keep customers within the Google ecosystem over providing a decent product. The entire video history UI is just a slow horizontal scroll.
It's a bit of a rant, but I'm surprised and disappointed. Is there any solution to this basic request of 24/7 video history?
Your Nest Aware Plus subscription should apply to all cameras and doorbells in the same Google Nest "home/structure" accessed by the same Google Account. Our Google Nest Camera (Battery)--plugged in with the optional power cable--has 24/7 history along with our older Google Nest cameras and doorbells, but we have to access that history in the Google Home app.
@SomeUsername thanks for posting here in the community. This is not the experience we wanted you to have. I'm on the same side as you and I know how confusing it is when you purchased the Nest Aware subscription and it didn't apply properly to your other home structure.
