3 hours then deletes? When did this change?

When I first installed this camera I had 24 hrs of total recording. And only records events.  Now videos disappear after a day. Reading threads it seems nest deletes 3 hours after the recording is made. This was not the case a few weeks ago. What is the point now? When did this change?

Subscription expired?

When you purchase a new Google Nest camera, you have the option to sign up for a 30-day free trial Nest Aware subscription, which records only events. If that free trial expired and you did not purchase a Nest Aware subscription, then--without a subscription--you get event history for the most recent 3 hours only.

Yep the salesman at the dept store failed to tell me that the cams and associated home app have a 3 hour event history thats it no more unless subscribed. I found initially in the first few months of ownership if you uninstalled then reinstalled the home app the monthly trial period would start again. This worked 3 times then i had to subscribe. Even then when i tried to subscribe with a prepaid google play card as suggested in the home app the card was faulty and it took 3 weeks to have google and the dept store refund the play card purchase amount. Its been a regretful experience from day 1 with these cameras i should never have bought them. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but useless when bombarded with a large tech companies advertising clout. Googles advertising spiels worked and i feel like an utter fool for believing them.

Hi everyone,

@Rob-B, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To confirm, which Nest Camera do you have? Do you have the Nest Aware subscription? Looking forward to your response.

I appreciate the help, Luch, Fraa and MplsCustomer.

Hi everyone,

thank you for taking the time to reply. It is the wireless battery nest camera. We were told that it would record a certain amount of hours before clips are deleted. ie first in first out, so you would always be able to see previous events until they were "recorded over" by newer events.

I have never signed up for any trial subscription.

It was a gift so I did not speak to the salesperson and unfortunately the person that gave it to me has passed. He  away. He did mention that is you wanted continuous recording then you need an account and continuous power, which is what he had.

I feel that perhaps there was a misunderstanding. I received it for Christmas and have only recently had this issue, so well over 30 days.

Was this a local promotion? Country = New Zealand

@Rob-B

Without a subscription, you get event video history only, and only for events that occurred in the most recent 3 hours.  If you had one 3-minute event in the last 3 hours, that's all you will see.  If you don't download the event within 3 hours, you will lose access to it.

This forum has numerous posts about this issue, because of the way in which Google Nest states how this works.
