Audio through 'phone' speaker, not loud speaker?

Hi all.

Nest Doorbell Battery, viewing through Google Home. When listening to the audio - both Standby feed and during event - it's playing through the internal phone speaker. Eg, the speaker used for phone calls.

It no longer plays through the loud / external speaker on the phone, making it quick hard to both view the person and talk to them at the same time.

Any ideas to resolve? Or is this another 'update' like the one that broke our video quality?

Hello,  I'm an end user like you.   I remember about a year ago this was an issue for Android phone but I thought they fixed it.   I'm going to escalate this to see if we can get you some help on this from an Actual Google Tech person.    Once they get you up and running please return here and let us know how it was fixed.

Hello mercury670,

Thanks for posting here in the community forum. I understand you may encounter difficulties with the speaker because it's no longer playing audio through the external speaker. Don’t worry. It’s a pleasure to help you.

To expedite the assistance. Help me out by answering the following questions:

  • What model of the phone are you using?
  • Did you try to use another phone with the same Google Home app account that has a doorbell? If not, try connecting another phone with your same Google account and check if you are experiencing the same behavior.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I'm using a Galaxy S24. Wife is using a Galaxy S23. Both having the same issues.

Hey mercury670,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated.

To provide you with more assistance, let's explore some troubleshooting options.

  • Try to reboot your phone.
  • Perform a reboot from your Nest Doorbell:

  1. Locate the reset pinhole on the back of the doorbell.
  2. Press and hold for five seconds (not exceeding five seconds).
  3. Your doorbell will restart, and the status light will be a steady and solid white.

For your reference, check out this article: Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell.

Keep me posted and let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I've worked in and around tech for the last 20 years. Believe me when I say I've done all the possible troubleshooting.

Further, it's not an issue with the doorbell itself - it's the speaker that the Google Home app is choosing for audio output.
