My Nest doorbell camera (wired) is peeling and looks awful. Has that happened to anyone. Believe I am just passed the two year warranty. Expensive to just go out and replace.

It seems the Google Nest Hello Doorbell has two inherent design flaws:

  • The first is that the face of the doorbell often starts to peel after one or two years. This forum has over 320 threads on "peeling" Nest Hello doorbells. One of ours, 23 months old, starting peeling a few months ago.
  • The second is that the internal battery often starts to fail after one or two years, causing the doorbell's camera to go offline briefly whenever the doorbell is pressed. (See this thread with 819 replies: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Nest-Hello-Doorbell-cuts-out-when-butto....). A few months ago, this started happening to our 23-month-old Nest Hello and our 25-month-old Nest Hello.

In both cases, Google Nest says it "cannot" replace the doorbell if the 1-year-warranty has expired.

Our workaround for the peeling was to purchase a silicone cover for the doorbell. Our workaround for the failing internal battery was to turn off our indoor chime and rely on "Visitor announcements" on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini; with the indoor chime turned off, the camera does not go offline when the doorbell is pressed.

You can, of course, try contacting Google Nest Support (https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp) to see if they'll make an exception in your case.

Sounds like there is nothing I can do. Google makes a poor product and won’t provide a replacement.
