Can't add Nest Doorbell (Battery) to our Google Home ecosystem

Just purchased a Nest Doorbell (Battery), and in the process of attempting to add it to all of the other Google/Nest devices managed by Google Home, I'm running into a Catch-22.

  • I open the Google Home app and go to Add and manage / Set up device / New device.
  • I choose a Home (which is our existing Home ecosystem full of Google and other interconnected/supported devices).
  • At "What are you setting up?", I tap Doorbell, and select Nest Doorbell (battery).
  • I scan the QR code and it registers. I tap Continue.
  • I tap Agree, Next, Next, and Yes, I'm in.
  • For "Do you have a Nest Account?, I tap No.
  • At "Supplemental Nest terms", I tap I agree.
  • A popup appears saying Sorry, G Suite accounts can't be used for migration and I'm back on the Supplemental Nest terms screen. Tapping I agree again just kicks off the same loop, and it appears I can get no further.

Note: I manage a Google family domain (originally GAFYD and now after several name changes, Google Workspace, I suppose) which has been in place for perhaps 15 years, and has been used to, among other things:

  • Purchase goods and services from Google and other entities, most of them Google partners
  • Manage security for our domain and all access/content/other permissions;
  • Use our Google identities for federation to access a huge number of third party resources;
  • Manage all content and communications produced and consumed by family members;
  • Instantiate and manage our Google Home ecosystem.

So how do we get beyond this apparent Catch-22 and register the doorbell via Google Home? If this new Google product cannot be made a part of and managed through our existing device framework, it calls into question the stability, reliability, and future for the home management ecosystem Google has promoted for years (and probably expended billions of dollars to build up). Looking for a viable solution to this problem. We have enjoyed Google's products and services for almost 20 years, and would prefer not to be forced to replace dozens of devices and rebuild an environment that took untold person-hours to set up -- if that's even feasible. Please don't force us to leave.

Thank you.

Literally the same situation here! Just got it today... I added a nest hub last month and remember getting a similar prompt but was able to still add it.. which is strange. I will be sending back my doorbell if I cant add it. Very frustrating .

Same here.  I managed to migrate Nest account to Google home and now it hangs trying to link to doorbell.  Same issue unaddable.

Hi folks ... having same issue here ... not able to add Nest doorbell (battery) to my Home ecosystem connected to my Workspace account.

If your not already aware, the issue is the Workspace account.  If your able to use a different regular gmail account, connect your Google Home to that account, create a new HOME, then the add device process will probably work. It worked for me that way, but I don't like this solution as my Hub is not in that HOME.

Hey there,
Sorry for the late response, but I wanted to drop in here to help.

I understand that these issues can be confusing but I definitely wanted to stop by and see how I could help.

Just wanted to double check to see if you were still needing help on this? If so, what troubleshooting steps have you tried?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Unless you have a solution to using the G Suite accounts with Nest doorbell, nothing else to be done.  I had to switch to using a regular gmail account just to get my doorbell activated on my account.  Pretty crappy I have to create a second email account when I cannot use my main  G Suite account.

I'm in exactly the same boat. I've had to connect a Gmail account in the home app to the doorbell. All other devices in my ecosystem are linked to my g.suite (workspace) account and they can't cooperate with each other.

Any other solutions?

Once I used the regular gmail account for the doorbell I went and put all my devices onto that home account so that everything would be connected.
