Clicking Doorbell notification no longer takes me to the live feed

Hi,

When we first installed our google nest doorbell and the home app, we would get a notification pop up on our phones with a thumbnail of the video feed from the doorbell. If we then clicked that notification, it would take us to the app/live feed so we could interact with the person at the door.

Recently this behavior has changed. We get the push notification but with no video thumbnail. If we click the notification, the notification closes without bringing us to the app/live feed.

Sometimes we see a message at the bottom of the screen saying "Shortcut not available"

We have not changed any settings in the app.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Home app to no avail. As far as I can tell the Home app has the needed permissions including camera and microphone... unless I'm missing something.

We both have Pixel 6a's with Android 14 and the home app version is 3.11.1.10

Hope you can help.  Thanks!

Hi folks,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing a change in behavior with the Nest Doorbell notifications on your Pixel 6a devices. Here are a few suggestions to try and resolve the issue:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Pixel 6a devices and navigate to "Apps & notifications" or "Apps." Locate the Google Home app from the list of installed apps and tap on it. Make sure that the notifications for the app are enabled and that you have granted the necessary permissions such as camera and microphone access.
  2. In the app settings for the Google Home app, you can try clearing the cache and data. This can help resolve any potential glitches or conflicts that might be affecting the notifications. Keep in mind that clearing data will reset any personalized settings in the app, so you may need to set them up again.
  3. Ensure that you have the latest version of the Google Home app installed on your Pixel 6a devices. Go to the Google Play Store, search for the Google Home app, and check if there are any available updates. Updating to the latest version can help address bugs or issues that may be affecting the notifications.
  4. Try restarting your Pixel 6a devices to refresh the system and potentially resolve any temporary glitches. Sometimes a simple restart can help restore normal functionality.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Having the same issue with my pixel 8. None of those troubleshooting apps helped.

Having the same issue on both Samsung S24 Ultra and Fold 4. It works for a day or so after factory reset of Doorbell Battery then stops...
