Create a recording

I have the newest battery powered google/nest camera for one of my rooms at my studio.  It automatically records video clips.  I want however to control when my video starts and stops.  I want to record long clips sometimes     How do I do that?

HI, Actually if you use a desktop version of the Home app, there is NO History for any type of camera...and NO option to download any clip.  In the NEST app, you can see ONLY the older NEST camera's and you can easily view , rename and download any historical clips.  The newer battery powered Google Nest camera's do not show up in this NEST app.

Google HOme does show both kinds of cameras on the desktop HOme app, but as I said earlier, no options for downloading any history...or seeing any history for any type of camera.

On the phone, using the Google HOme app, you CAN see history of the newer cameras, and if you click on the elipse (upper R corner) you can "save clip to device" .  Once on the iphone, it is also on Icloud, and can be downloaded into imovie or final cut pro for editing.

However, the nest cameras do not show any Hx in the Google HOme app...so no Hx can be downloaded or even seen on this Home app.

In general the Google HOme app sucks as does Google support in general.  They took a great NEST app and destroyed it.  I am actively looking elsewhere for a company that can support these types of cameras and store historical feeds for later download.

Very dissapointed.

@DrBill

Google Nest decided that the new Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in Sept,. 2021 would work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com. As a result, we cannot edit video clips on the newer cameras and doorbells; we can only download detected events.

Hi DrBill,

Thanks for reaching out. You can only download video clips from detected events in the video history. You cannot download video clips from footage with no activity. The maximum clip length setting for your camera or doorbell will affect how long video clips can be.

Follow the steps below to create and download a video clip:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Select your camera.
  3. Tap History near the bottom of the screen.
  4. Scroll to an event in your camera's video history timeline. You can also tap Full history for a list of events.
  5. Choose the event you want, then tap Event details.

Near the top of the screen, tap Download download nest app icon to save the video clip to your phone. From there, you can share the video clip via email or social media app.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Thanks,

JT

Your instructions, like the ones posted on Google Nest Help, are wrong (which I've reported previously, but they are still not corrected).

If you tap "Event Details", this white area pops up from the bottom of the screen, as shown in the first screenshot below. There is no "Download" option at the top of the screen, as numerous customers in this forum have previously reported.

Instead of tapping "Event Details", you need to top the "More" icon (the 3 dots) at the top of the screen. You then get several options, one of which is "Save clip to device", as shown in the second screen shot below. You have to select "Save clip to device" in order to download the clip.
