Custom Notification

Has anyone been able to set a custom alert tone on their Android phone for the doorbell? I don't want it to be the same as my texts. Seems like it should be an easy thing to do within the Home App, but I couldn't find it there nor when I went thru my phone settings.

Yes, I have done this.  The notification setting isn't in the Google Home app, it's in the Settings>Notifications>App Settings area.  Once there, find the Google Home (it's under just "Home") and scroll down to "Doorbell press notifications".  There you can change the sound and other things like vibration and pop up notifications.  I've set mine to "Royal Fanfare",  You can also change the notification for just people who come to the door, but don't press the doorbell button - that's "presence sensing notifications".  You can make it the same sound or something else.

Awesome. Much appreciated. On my phone (Pixel 6), they actually added more options...Camera, Critical Alerts and Other. Happy Day!

Hey folks.

I will generally say that I have personally seen a lot of Samsung device users have some issues with notifications. However, there is no such option to have a custom ring tone for our Doorbells. It gives you just the default tone and nothing more. Please leave your feedback or feature request on the app.

Best regards,

Brad.

Hi Rick, I have the same problem but I can't seem to see an option for selecting the sounds.  I have a Samsung Z-Fold 3 phone running Android 11.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

I would assume you would navigate to the Notifications area the same way I'd do it on my Pixel 6 Pro, but perhaps that's not a valid thought.  I do a search for "Notifications" in the settings area and see where Sammy hides them.  I've never owned a Samsung for this very reason.  Once you find them, follow my original steps.

I have tried for about an hour how to paste a screenshot to this post to no avail.  What a stupid help system that wouldn't allow for this basic tool.

Anyway, maybe my instructions I gave above aren't very clear.  Here is the step-by-step:

1.  Go to Settings gear

2.  Tap on "Notifications"

3.  Tap on "App settings"

4.  Scroll or search for Google Home (on my phone it is just under "Home") and tap on it

5.  Scroll to the notification sound you want to change.  We are all interested in the Doorbell press sound on your phone, so scroll down to "Doorbell press notifications" and tap on the vibrating bell icon on the left.

6.  Make sure the slider is slid to the right on "Show Notifications".  When you do, it should bring up options for you to change.  Tap on the "Sound" choice and make a choice based on the notifications that are present on your phone.  Make sure and tap "Save" in the top right corner after you make your decision.

7.  Back out of the menus with the left arrow on the top left.

8.  Make any other changes you want to make while here.  Then go press your Nest Doorbell.  You phone will respond with the choices you made.

Now, if you are expecting this same sound to come from the Nest Doorbell itself, it will NOT!  That is a whole different set of instructions, but they are not done from the Notifications area.

Kudos for the detailed steps. This will be very beneficial for anyone who has this question. On my phone (Pixel 6), I can also set the notification for when the Camera detects someone. That's  great for deliveries as they don't usually press the doorbell. It also alerts me when the deer are eating my landscaping shubbery!!!

Hey folks.

Thanks for your steps that you have taken and sharing them with the Community. I still do not have a solution to this issue as a whole, but the steps you provided could help others out so thank you.

Hey folks.

As I already stated above, I do not have further steps. This is not really an option, and more of a workaround that other users have tried. If it doesn't work for you, I am afraid I do not have an answer to provide. You can't really change these alerts as they are defaulted to the device.

Best regards,

Brad.
