Doorbell camera feed based on Phone call volume

Pat84571

When I have either live feed or watching recorded video from my doorbell camera, changing the volume changes my "in call volume" when it should really be changing my media volume. Now I'm constantly changing the in call phone volume whenever I'm on call with somebody and wanting to listen to my camera feed because they both require drastically different volumes in order to hear properly.

Hi Pat84571,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that when you're viewing your doorbell camera's live or recorded feed, adjusting the volume is incorrectly changing your phone's 'in-call volume' instead of the 'media volume.' Now you're constantly having to readjust your in-call volume when you're on a phone call and also trying to listen to your camera feed, as they require very different volume levels. I'm here to help!

To address this situation, I have some questions for you:

  • When did you first notice this inconvenience?
  • What's your Doorbell device model?
  • What kind of phone are you using (make, model, and operating system version)?
  • Have you noticed this behavior with any other apps or media playing on your phone?

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Juan

Hey Juan!

We installed the gen 2 wired Nest doorbell and using it within the Google Home app is when the volume issue occurs. I have a Samsung Galaxy S24+ running One UI 7.0, Android Version 15. No other app does this, its just when I'm watching the feed from the doorbell camera in the Google Home app.

Hi Pat84571,

Thanks for getting back to me! To continue addressing this inconvenience, I have some more questions for you:

  • Is your Google Home app updated? Please check out the following link for your reference: Update the Google Home app
  • Could you check if this behavior happens on a different mobile phone?
  • Is the "Absolute Volume" turned on on your Samsung Galaxy S24+? To check it, please contact Samsung support.

Please let me know the outcome.

Sincerely.
Juan

My app is updated, and I tried it with Absolute volume on and off and it still does it with both. As for trying with other devices the only other devices that are part of my household are IPhones and it works fine for them, but that's a whole other OS so that's probably why.

Hi Pat84571,

Thanks for your continued updates! I appreciate you confirming that it works fine with other mobile devices.

For the next step, please try restarting your Samsung S24+. If the issue persists after this, I would suggest submitting your feedback regarding this behavior on our feedback form. Kindly include your phone model and the Google Home app version in your submission, as this will be helpful for our engineering team.

Feel free to post any further questions on this forum.

Regards,
Juan
