Doorbell rarely detecting motion

AndyL
Community Member

Hi there,

I've had my Nest Doorbell (battery) for nearly a year without any issues, but in the last week it has stopped detecting motion in nearly all cases, even when walking directly past it. Very occasionally I've had the odd one come through so it hasn't stopped completely, but it seems to be 1 every 2 or 3 days rather than multiple events per day that I'd expect.

It still works if someone actually presses the doorbell, and all of my event settings / notifications look fine and haven't changed. The battery was also charged recently and isn't low.

Any advice / tips would be much appreciated as I'm at a loss as to why it would change so suddenly.

Thanks,

Andy

Hello AndyL,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. No worries, we'll check our options here. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, Are there other family members who can access the camera? Do they receive any notifications? Are there any Activity Zones set up?

Give these steps a try:

  • Restart your Nest Camera.
  • Remove and re-add your activity zones.
  • Try changing the position of your Nest camera or change something in the camera’s view to improve motion detection results.
  • Try turning off and on the push notification and toggle off and on the categories (people, motion, animal and vehicle) to trigger the notification.
  • Reinstall the Google Home App.
  • In case you have an activity zone setup, make sure they don't overlap.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Emerson

Hi Emerson,

Thanks very much for the advice. I tried the restart and so far that seems to have worked. Hopefully that continues!
