I am professional security installer and my company is beginning to use the nest camera battery in a plugged in configuration. My issue is with the USB cord, I typically will cut the wire of the supplied power supply splice it onto 22-4 in the middle to run my wire. When I cut this wire I found 2 things, first there were 2 red wires making matching up the wires at the other end impossible and second the camera didn't power on after splicing. So how am I supposed to run this wire? Are people really drilling out a hole big enough to fit a USB end through it???

Hey DAIOS,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.
We do not recommend splicing the power cable because it will void the warranty of the device. Also, it might affect its power.
Thanks,
Archie

At this point I believe we won't be using this product due to the poor design of the power connection and lack of any options to extend the wire. My boss has stopped selling any of these until we have a better option for wiring them. With no way to hide or extend the wire this is clearly not a viable commercial product that Google is trying to push on ADT dealers
