Forget Nest Floodlight! No Nest App, NO purchase!!

I searched and bought an excellent motion sensor Non-Nest floodlight(from big box hardware store) and since I bought 4 Nest Cam Outdoor cameras(in 2 packs of 2 from same big box hardware store before I realized I should have bought more) I installed the Nest Cam Outdoor camera "with" Non-Nest floodlight B E C A U S E it can still be used on the Nest App. So, I have an excellent Non-Nest motion sensor floodlight installed with a Nest Outdoor camera and it works great AND is on the Nest App. Funny thing, I paid substantially less for the Non-Nest floodlight than I would've for the Nest Floodlight. The "we're working on it" Google Home app shortcomings is THE ENTIRE REASON I didn't buy the Nest Floodlight and WILL NOT buy ANY Nest product that can't be added to the Nest app. As I recall, before Nest was purchased by Google, the products & the app were both high quality and now, they're not, and after what almost 3 years, Google still can't/won't make it at least as good as it was?? For what Nest app cameras(new & used) that can be used on the Nest app are selling for, I'd have to say I'm leaning towards switching to Ring. I mean Logitech and Eufy are rated considerably higher than Nest on CR's! What more can be done to ruin such a quality product?

I'm 99% sure the nest app is done and will not receive any updates.  Google has basically said this.  But according to what they are saying they are in fact migrating the nest features over to the Google home app very soon. And also they said they are bring a web version to the new cams as well. However I'm pretty sure (sadly) that the old gen 1 cams that we all love and prefer will not have many of the features in the updated Google app (not sure on this as I haven't tried it yet since the preview version is not available to me).

You can ignore the Logitech reviews as Logitech has discontinued all their cameras except for the baby monitors.

As for Eufy I have some and like them a lot.  And if you have seen it you should check out on youtube the new EUFY CAM Version 3 that was just released last week.  They look AMAZING.  The cams are all 4K image quality (sorry google) and the talk to a base unit that you plug into your router that stores all the footage so no subscription is needed unless you want it for cloud backup.

I don't have access to the preview version of the updated Google Home app. I think it is likely they're going to push us all to the Google Home app. I just hope that, when they do so, they carry forward the capabilities of the Google Nest app and provide that capability for our existing cameras and doorbells, as GM/VP Rishi Chandra promised on Sept. 29, 2021: "...we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app."

I already accepted an answer for this, not sure why it's not reflecting that other than Google manages threads like this like they do the inexcusable Google Home App. Either way, feel free to close this thread.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.  I purchased the Google outside camera with floodlight, and could not fir the life of me, figure out what I was doing wrong.  And I'm a Senior Sas/JCL programmer since 1980.

I sent a message to Google and explained that telling me to move closer isn't helpful, and if I moved any closer, I'd get sunburned. Your  article made me realize it is not something I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

I was unaware of the information provided by EmptyNester but fully expect Google to force Google Home upon any nest app user by closing the Nest app. When that happens, I will be fully done with Nest, since Google Home is abysmal(and this is being kind) and the "we're working on it" years later is such a major disappointment. Way to RUIN a great product Google.
