Installed the Gen 2 Wired Doorbell about two years ago. In the last 6-9 months, it's been dropping Offline from time to time. Validated (Multiple times:)!) that the WiFi and Router pipeline were all as they should be (And have multiple other Nest products up and running without issues too.).
Notice a pattern where it seemed the drops to Offline mode, were more frequently in the late evenings and into the early AM hours. And yesterday we had a few Offline occurrences during the day.
In Southern California about 1/2 mile from the ocean, and area did get some rain yesterday. And we've had many nights over these months, with heavy pea soup fog evenings and AM's too...
So I pulled the camera to check things (Again. Had done this about a year and half ago, and all looked good.), and the wires/screws were crud'ed (Tech Term) up with gunk... Figured the first time I checked the condition 1 1/2 years ago, during the afternoon, that everything still looked good...
I speculate that the heavy fog, and then yesterdays rain, created heavy condensation. And after enough time, mold like crud set in too...
Unmounted the wires, cleaned everything well with electric contact cleaner, put back together, and added Dielectric Grease this time, coating all the contacts and exposed screws bare wire areas very well.
Too soon to see if this solves the Offline Mode Syndrome, but hoping it was enough of a bad contact in moist conditions, that was causing our problem.
Wanted to share, in case anyone else has intermittent connectivity/Offline behavior.
And Note... I use Dielectric Grease on almost all of the outdoor wiring I do... My portable toolbox with the tube of dielectric, was over at another home when I first installed the Doorbell. It's partially recessed in a cubby hole, and I thought 'It will be all right...'... It was not:)!
Best to all,
Smitty

This is a great tip. I bet a lot of people don't think to check the connections.
Thanks for posting.
