Google nest battery cam not sending notifications

af84

Hello,

I have a nest doorbell and 2 indoor/outdoor battery nest cams. The doorbell and one of the battery nest cams are sending notifications without issues. The second battery nest cam will record an event but does not send a notification. What I've done so far:

-Restarted phone and made sure its up to date

-Restarted nest cam

-Reinstalled Google Home app

-Did a factory reset of the nest cam

One thing worth mentioning is that during the setup after the factory reset I did get a "person seen" notification while I was adjusting the camera in its mount. Then after I pressed "finish" and google home did whatever it does during the "finishing setup" phase, the notifications went away again. I did double check the settings after the google home reinstall and camera reset to make sure notifications were still enabled.

Any ideas would be welcome, cant think of anything else to try.

Thanks!

@af84

The impression I get from posts about the Google Nest Battery Camera in this forum is that notifications and other functions on this camera are not very consistent when the camera is running on battery power alone. It almost seems, when on battery power alone, the camera goes into an "Idle" state and may or may not detect events or send notifications. (Search this forum for "battery idle" and see how many posts you get.) So maybe it just happens to work with your one camera and not the other just because the functionality is inconsistent when battery-powered.

We have one of the new Google Nest Battery Cameras and have had it connected with Google's optional weatherproof power cable since we bought it 3 months ago. As a result, we get 24/7 recording with our Nest Aware subscription and we are getting notifications because it's always "Live". If I disconnect the power to the camera, it immediately goes into "Idle" status.

I'm just another Google Nest customer and so had nothing to do with the design decisions that led to this. It seems to me that the camera isn't very useful unless it's connected to power with the optional weatherproof power cable.  (Even when it is plugged in, it lacks a few features that our older Google Nest cameras have because it uses only the Google Home app and not the Google Nest app or the home.nest.com website.)

It started working on its own shortly after I started this thread (figures, right?). Have not had any issues with it since then. I'm not sure if the factory reset was the fix but it was the last thing I did. After the factory reset, I set it up again, got the initial notification, and then nothing for 10-15 minutes or so. Then it started working again.

Also, not sure if it even matters but the first time I set it up I did not mount it until after the full setup was finished and during the steps where it tells you to mount the camera outside, check the angle and so on I just had it in my hand. The second time I already had the mount installed outside so I followed the initial setup steps as directed.

@SamGray

I am sorry to say this issue is still being looked into. I do not have an ETA to provide on a fix. Best thing I can suggest is to keep trying to Restart, Factory Reset it if you have too, remove it and add it back if you can. Those are workaround steps of course, but we do not have a fix at this time.

Best regards,

Brad.

We hadn't been using notifications on our Google Nest Battery Camera until recently. I now notice that push notifications for events on our Google Nest Battery Camera--configured in the Google Home app--get sent to my iPad, but NOT to either of our iPhones. Push notifications for our older Nest cameras and doorbells--configured in the Google Nest app--get sent to both iPhones and my iPad just fine.

Yeah, it's nothing to do with the cameras being idle. Notifications don't come to my Samsung Galaxy A51, but do come to my 3 year older 3 Android version older Samsung Galaxy S8 everytime like clockwork. Ridiculous.

Our camera is plugged in with the optional power cable, so it's live all the time.  The "People" events get recorded in the timeline as well, but no notices to our iPhones; just the iPads,

Yep, my events record fine. It's clearly an issue with the app that the notifications don't work with all OS, but they won't admit that

I tried deleting and re-installing the Google Home app on my iPhone.  Once I also re-enabled Notifications for the Google Home app, the "Time Sensitive" notifications from our Google Nest Battery Camera started appearing on my iPhone.
