Google nest camera battery issues

Hello! We have had a nest camera above our garage for almost 1 year now. Suddenly the battery drains in about 12 hours. Previously it was lasting about 3-4 weeks. We do not have sound detection on, garage detection or other certain features that may drain the battery. Is it time to get a different camera or any hope?

If you've had your camera for less than a year, perhaps you would qualify for a warranty replacement. This is Google Nest's page for checking a warranty and filing a claim:

Hi Kpitch15,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

I hear that the battery life of your Nest Cam outdoor or indoor (battery) has dropped from lasting several weeks to just 12 hours, almost a year after you started using it above your garage. I appreciate the troubleshooting you've already done, like turning off sound detection and other battery-intensive features. Don't worry; I'm happy to help you with this!

To help me understand what might be happening and provide the best troubleshooting steps, could you tell me a bit more about the following?

  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, you can learn how to update it here: How to update the Google Home app
  • What is the status of the Nest Cam outdoor or indoor (battery) LED light?
  • Are you able to check the camera feed?”
  • Did you receive any notification from the Google Home app?
  • Did you notice or experience any power outages recently?

In the meantime, I recommend you verify the following conditions:

  1. Check and clean the power connectors. Over time dust and dirt can build up on the Pogo connectors, which can prevent charging.
    • Verify if the power connectors are facing up or down when in normal use (wall socket adapter and Pogo connector).
    • Check if there are any signs of debris, corrosion, or damage in the wall adaptor’s pins or the Pogo connector’s pins or sockets.
    • Check If the inconvenience is resolved, but if it persists, follow the next step.
  2. Factory reset the Nest Cam outdoor or indoor (battery). Refer to this Help Center article on how to factory reset a Nest camera: Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell. Specifically in the section:  Nest Cam (battery) or Nest Cam with Floodlight.
  3. Change the camera’s battery settings as explained in Save battery for Nest cameras and doorbells, and monitor the camera’s battery performance.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna
