Have I got the wrong version?

Our new house doesn't have a doorbell, so I bought Nest Hello - and because I didn't want to have to recharge the unit periodically, I got the wired option.

But when I came to install it, it seems it requires an existing doorbell (that wasn't clear from what I'd read about it). We don't want a normal doorbell as well, as it disturbs the dogs - we just want the app-based features.

I can't see a way to install it without an existing doorbell. I got it working on my desk whilst it was charging via USB, but when not connected to a power supply, it doesn't seem to function.

Have I bought the wrong option? Or is it possible to wire a power supply to it without an existing doorbell?

You can use a mains plug adapter, if you don't have an existing doorbell.
