But how do we stop it from using data? I don't want to turn them off, but they bring my network to a standstill every 10 minutes.

I can imagine it has been an inconvenience, and I would love to look into this further for you. What troubleshooting steps have you done on your end? What are your Wi-Fi speeds like? And how far away is your router from your Nest Camera? Please let me know.
Best regards,
Brad

I am getting 110Mbps down and 8Mbps up. The cameras are about 10 feet away from my router. I have factory reset both my google wifi router and the cameras. I have paused both the cameras at the router and run a ping to 1.1.1.1 and get around 28ms. While they are paused I monitor my network traffic and total network bandwidth up is around 1Mbps. When I unpause the cameras and monitor traffic. I see both of them using ~6Mbps up and my pings slow to ~1000ms. After that initial unpause, they both periodically just slurp upload bandwidth. I have changed their resolution settings to High instead of max, but it doesn't help. I have them both paused at the router currently, because I can't use my network when they are active. This is a thing I started to notice about a month ago and it took me a while to track it down to the cameras.

It seems that you do have a decent connection. Have you replaced or changed your Wi-Fi router recently? Any major changes made to your network? Please let me know.
Best regards,
Brad

No new changes. My configuration has been static for around 2 years, except for the addition of the cameras.
