How do I combine Google nest and Google Home?

@Frankdac

Unfortunately, you can't combine them.  The new Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting in 2021 work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website. Older Nest cameras and doorbells can be viewed in the Google Home app but are administered in the Google Nest app. Other Google Nest devices work in one app or the other.

Google Nest's explanation for this 2-app approach can be found in this Sept. 29, 2021 blog post in this forum--along with customer reactions:

The Nest app is way more intuitive.  Simple things are way easier in the nest app… like the vertical scroll for history instead of horizontal in home.

How did this half baked idea to use two apps (for products of the same name) and then make users use an inferior app as a step backwards ever make it past a product manager is beyond me.

I am so angry that this is the case.  HALF my google products work on one app and not the other.  SHAME ON YOU GOOGLE

Hey folks,

Thank you for your feedback on this, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest cams in the Nest app or available on https://goo.gle/3A7x7ug web app.

However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A nest aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

Best regards,

Brad

Brad,

I'm sorry but your stock answer (which I've seen elsewhere) makes no sense. If the idea was to make it more seamless then why not migrate ALL functionality to Google Home and create a Google Home website? For example, right now even if I wanted to only use Google Home I can't because of limited functionality on my thermostats (including one I just bought last week, so it's not about being an older model). And if I want to check my cameras on the web then all my new cameras are excluded. So I find myself switching back and forth between the apps and website in order to get the full experience. Google is one of the biggest companies in the world - I would think you have the capabilities to just build one app/website experience that supports all products!

This is the current reasoning behind these changes. Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re always looking for ways to improve, and appreciate your feedback. You can send it at any time using your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," or by following the steps found here

Best regards,
Brad

I tend to agree with Phil.  I wasn't even able to add a Nest Hub Display because it was trying to connect to the thread/weave network from other assistive devices on the network (my thermostats) on iOS devices...  The solution: use an android device.

It just seems like Google has neglected this integration between Nest and Google.  Having started and led technical teams (FW, mobile, and back-end) at a consumer IoT company myself in home security and automation, it is remarkable the amount of time that it has taken Google (with vastly more resources) to complete the integration of the two ecosystems or provide a cohesive, seamless user experience.  From an outsiders perspective, it appears that two different product managers are being territorial with their respective applications/ecosystems causing unnecessary delays (if ever) in rolling out what is best for the consumer that are relying on these products to secure their homes.
