Indoor Camera only turns on for seconds then shuts off

I received a nest indoor Camera from someone that worked perfectly fine for them but something must have happened to the USB port because when I plug it in it will turn on for a few seconds and then turn off. I tried using that cord from our current nest camera and it does the same thing. Can the USB port on the camera be replaced? Anyone else have this issue or know where to purchase a new USB port?

HI there,

Sorry to hear about that. The USB port on the Nest Camera can't be replaced. Have you tried on a different power outlet as well? When and where was this bought as well as what country are you in?

Regards,

Steve

Thanks, I tried a different outlet as well. It is a couple years old. Purchased in the US. It turns on for a couple seconds then turns off.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the reply. Having no LED light on your Nest Indoor Camera means that there could be something wrong with either the power cable/adapter, the camera itself or the wall outlet that it is plugged into. Let's try the steps below to isolate what is causing this.

Outlet:

  1. Move the Nest Camera and plug it into a different outlet.
  2. Verify the outlet isn’t controlled by a light switch.
  3. Plug another known working device into the outlet the camera is currently connected to. Observe and document the behavior.
  4. If the Nest Camera works in a different outlet, contact an electrician to look at the outlet.

Adapter/Cord:

  1. Use the provided USB cable to connect the Nest Camera to a computer.
  2. If you are plugging into a laptop, ensure that the laptop is plugged into a wall outlet.
  3. If the Nest Camera will not turn on at any wall outlet, but does start up when connected to a USB port on a computer, the Nest power adapter is faulty.

Port:

  1. Does the Nest Camera intermittently power on and off?
  2. Does the USB cable fit snugly into the port on the Nest Camera?
  3. Does it feel loose or fall out?
  4. Test with both the provided USB cable and with a different USB cable if one is available.
  5. If an alternate cable is loose, falls out, or the Nest Camera will not power on using any suitable USB cable and power adapter, the issue is isolated to the Nest Camera's USB port.

Best,
Steve

Thanks for the info, I did try a different outlet and the cord to my other nest camera that works fine. I think it's the port. Was wondering if it could be replaced.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I'm afraid we need to replace the whole camera if it's still within warranty. We don't have an option to replace the port in the Nest Camera.

If your Nest Camera is still within warranty, please fill up this form so we can check further. Once done, please let us know.

Steve

I have the exact same issue. Any response from google?

I believe it is a faulty device issue. I just bought new camera (indoor, wired, 2nd generation). After I plug in, the power status light flashes for a couple of second, then it turns off. Keeps same stories again and again.

When I tried to set up on my Google Home account, it says " something went wrong".

What can I do?
