Inherited an outdoor Nest Cam

Emmagb
Community Member

Hi there,

 we’ve just bought a new house and the previous owners left us a note saying that they couldn’t get their nest cam down, and so they had left it for us. I’m trying to set it up on the app using the entry key which I can see (along with the serial number) but the app is asking me to plug it in inside which I can’t do! Once I put in the entry key the app suggests I should be able to select the serial number from a list but nothing shows up.

 Any tips on how to get round this / connect to a nest cam that’s already installed outside? Worried old owners still have access!

TIA

In order to allow a Google Nest device to be used by a new resident or owner, the general process is for the previous owner to remove the Google Nest Device from their account in the Google Nest app or the Google Home app, then do a factory reset, and then for the new owner to install the Google Nest device on their account in the Google Nest app or the Google Home app:

I don't know if that explains what you're encountering. Sometimes the problem with the serial number not showing up occurs when you try to install the Google Nest device in the wrong app (the Google Nest app vs. the Google Home app).

Are you entering the 6-character Setup Code printed on the camera?

Hi! In the end the fix was to put a pin in the small hole on the camera to reset it. The previous owner had already removed it from his account so I was able to do this! All set up in the Nest app though not working in the Google home app yet!

@Emmagb

Cameras installed in the Google Nest app should automatically appear in the Google Home app, as long as you're logging into both apps with the same Google Account and accessing the same Google Nest "home/structure" on the same Wi-Fi network. You should also be able to see the cameras on both the home.nest.com and the "preview"/beta home.google.com websites.
