I installed a Nest Doorbell (wired Gen 2) to replace my Gen 1.
Everything works UNTIL I install the Chime Connector at which point my mechanical door bell no longer rings.
When I disconnect the Chime Connector, my mechanical doorbell rings without issue.
In the settings, I do have Ring indoor chime set to on and Electronic Chime set to No.
So is the Chime Connector required and will not using it cause any damage?

You need the chime puck:
"The Nest Doorbell (wired) must be installed with the chime connector included in the box. The Nest Doorbell (battery) doesn't need the chime connector for wired or battery-powered installation.
The chime connector allows the chime’s wires to deliver constant power to the Nest Doorbell (wired) and protects your chime from damage. In addition, without the chime connector, you might experience chime buzzing or unexpected chimes."

Judging from numerous other posts in this forum, if your indoor doorbell chime works WITHOUT the chime connector and NOT WITH the chime connector, that indicates your chime connector is faulty,
You'll need to contact Support for a replacement:
1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.
