My new doorbell won't work.

I've recently purchased the google nest doorbell and I am going to have to update my entry to my house as there is nowhere to mount it due to old glass being there but that's fine I'm renovating anyway but my question is if I  stick it up temporarily with mounting tape it says remount or not mounted on my home app . Won't it work if it's not screwed in?

You can do this I believe but you likely need to change the mount type in the Home app.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device.
  3. At the top right, tap the  Settings cog > Device information > Camera mount.
  4. Select an option to change the type of mount you’re using.

oh ok thanks,  if I change the camera mount can I easily change it back the same way when I do my renovations and get it mounted properly.

Certainly can, just go back into the app and change the mount type again.
