Hello,
I'm looking to save an event. I have a nest aware subscription and my Nest Cam is setup in my google home app. My doorbell is in the nest app, and this seems achievable there, however on my cam, I seem to only be able to download events. I have an event that I need to save, and need to have the 1 minute before the event as well. The Cam is plugged in, and I can view the footage, but cannot find a way to save it.
Is this possible? I have Nest Aware subscription.
Thank you.

Hi Johm1, I'm and end user like you. A couple things at could be at play here....
Do you have the Nest Aware PLUS? That is the one that offers 24/7 recording. Otherwise the normal Nest Aware only give you clips.
Also, do you have the original Nest HELLO doorbell? Or the newer Nest Doorbell (battery).

With the newer Google Nest cameras and doorbells--like the Google Nest Camera (Battery)--you can only download and save events recognized by Google Nest, even if you have a Nest Aware Plus subscription (24/7 recording) and even if your camera is plugged in and recording 24/7 and you can view additional history.
That's because manual creation of clips can only be performed on the home.nest.com website from a computer: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9207572?hl=en. The newer cameras--by design--work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website.
This is what Google Nest's Vice President said a year ago about this direction; there has been no update since:

Thanks for the responses from you both. Yes I have the plus subscription that gives me 24/7 recording. Its unfortunate that I can only save recognized events by design, but thank you for the information.
Does anyone have a workaround, like playing the video on your android and recording it with a secondary app or something? Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you. Jon.

Hi Jon, just to be clear, there is a very well designed interface to save a clip of your choosing by accessing your cameras via browser at home.nest.com. You can define that start/end points anywhere in the 24/7 recording and then it saves the clip to the cloud. One of my favorite features is from there you can send someone an actual LINK to view the clip.
As MplsCustomer mentioned you should definitely check out this link for instructions:

Hi EmptyNester, Yes I understand that, but that is for NEST cameras only. I have a battery, that is only in the google home app, and that does NOT allow me to create custom clips. My Nest doorbell is in home.nest.com but its my battery camera that needs the custom clip. Also to be clear, it is plugged in, and the footage is recorded, I just cannot export 2 minutes before the triggered "event", which as per my original post was my goal.
Thank you.
Jon.

The same is true of our always-plugged-in Google Nest Camera (Battery). We can view the footage; we just can't create a clip of it in the Google Home app, and the camera is limited to the Google Home app.

Yes, thank you. I do understand this from the previous replies. The reason I continued the thread after receiving this information was for the following question:
"Does anyone have a workaround, like playing the video on your android and recording it with a secondary app or something? Any ideas would be appreciated."
If not, thanks for the responses.

I know on the iPhone you can easily put it in SCREEN RECORD MODE as it is build into OSX. Then go to the Google home app and play the segment you want to make a clip of. Then STOP the record process and the clip is saved to the phone. I'm sure Android must have this feature as well.
