Nest Camera Battery Dying Fast

EcuazRey
Community Member

Hello,

This is going to be now my 3rd replacement with this camera. I need a solution ASAP, this driveway facing camera consistently dies after a week on 100% charge. The sunrises on driveway and sets in backyard, in Florida USA weather. Activity is very rare and have used the seen events outline to only show the seen events, not out of zone. My backyard camera has 0 issues and shows me currently lasting 3 months on 60 percent charge. I cannot even get a battery life estimation on the driveway in terms of time, I get notified when there's a day left of charge after a week being remounted. My original camera was working fine until this issue occured, now 2 replacements later still no resolution.

Please help,

Sincerely a disappointed user

Hi EcuazRey

Thanks for visiting the Community. I'm sorry to hear that and for the delayed response. I know how important your Nest Cam Battery is for your every day home security. No worries, let's figure this out. Is your camera exposed to extreme temperatures (sunlight, rain, dust or snow)? How does it feel (hot, warm, cold or normal)? Also, is it fully charged before you installed it? The battery drains faster in cold weather or if there's a lot of activity (even if the activity isn't saved as a clip).

Going over the steps here might help:

  • Adjust the angle of their camera to a more productive area that catches fewer unimportant activities.
  • Keep the camera connected to the charger until its battery is full.
  • Mount your outdoor camera in a shaded spot such as under an eave, or install a small shade above the camera. This can keep the sun from shining directly into the lens, and helps prevent overheating in extreme temperatures.
  • Try the above mentioned steps, observe your camera for a few days if it's the same perform a factory reset.

Let me know if that helps.

 Thanks,

JT

Hello,

The camera is exposed to sunlight and rain, the driveway is where the sunrises and average Florida's summer weather is well above 90 degrees, very little shade since it's under roof eave. It was fully charged before being mounted. This was a replacement device sent from Google so it was just installed on home app.

Thanks

@EcuazRey

I am sorry to hear that your doorbell isn't staying charged for long. I have an article that goes over best charging practices, and how to know how long the battery should last for. I believe that Activity Zones will help you out in this situation. You can learn more about them here. I hope you find the article helpful!

Best Regards,
Brad
