Nest Camera (Battery)

MattMish

Sorry for the long post but.......

Bought a 2 pack of the Nest Camera (Battery). Had 1 on charge all night (only 1 charger cable provided). Went to setup Camera using Nest App, scanned the QR code and then the Nest App said "Use Google Home App to set up camera".......went to Google Home App which thst then said...."Use Nest App to set up camera".........went to Nest App, tried to set up using the 6 digit code.....then it said "Use Google Home App to set up camera".........seriously???

So I manage to get the Nest App to start trying to set up the camera, enter the code.....select the name.......then when it is supposed to show the last 4 digits of the serial number on the screen for me to select.......it never happens!!!

The camera won't even turn on unless it is plugged in. I have pressed the little button on the back until the yellow light flashes and makes a noise......Still doesn't work......nothing I do works! Nothing is working from these cameras to connect to the apps. So now at the moment I have a box of useless cameras that cost me nearly £300!! I already have Google products and never had a problem.

This needs to be resolved before I decide to rip everything out and get something else.

Please advise on this ridiculous problem

The battery camera ONLY gets installed in the Google Home app. Your problem may be caused by an outdated version of the Google Home app. Some customers in this forum who have had this problem were able to fix it just by updating to the latest version of the Google Home app.

Yes, it turned out that I needed to delete the Google Home App and reinstall to which it solved the problem of setting up the cameras.

However, these battery cameras are 2nd Gen and CAN NOT be added to the Nest App for use. So now I have Google products and a subscription that I have to run via 2 different apps now. Not sure why a NEST CAM can't be used in the NEST app though? Maybe something that needs to be updated on the NEST App. Seems silly having a Nest product that can't run in a Nest App?

But for now, I'm happy that I finally got the cameras working at least.

Unfortunately, Google Nest decided that the new Google Nest cameras and doorbells released starting later in 2021 would work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website. We discovered that to our surprise over a year ago when we bought a new battery camera, and have been using 2 apps ever since. This is Google Nest's rationale from Sept. 2021:

A few weeks ago Google Nest made available a "Preview" version of home.google.com where ALL cameras are live-streamed; there MAY be more functionality coming.

Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback on this, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest cams in the Nest app like you may be used too. However, you can now use the Google Home web app to view your cameras and doorbells.

The new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

Best regards,

Brad

To any others trying to fix this without uninstalling the Google Home App.

In Android

Try Turning on Airplane mode.

You will need turn on Blue Tooth and Wifi again.

Rerun the Setup Wizard in home again.

Worked for me.
