I have two homes set up with separate Home names for Google Home. Each has its own Nest cameras, some Indoor and some outdoor IQ. I also was invited to add my parents’ Google Home to my account so I could check in on their Nest cameras. They were invited to view my 2nd home so they could check in on my cameras for that property.
One of my Google Home names changed without my intervention. No one else on the account changed it or was in the app when it happened. Nest alerts that I set up to go to email started showing up with a different Home name, so I know when it started. Is a hacker messing with me?
The strange part about the names is that the new name was similar to what my parents’ home is named.
For example:
My Home 1: Main St
My Home 2: Country Club
Parents’ Home: Anytown Home
”Country Club” suddenly changed to “Anytown” so my 3 visible home names showed up as Main St, Anytown, and Anytown Home.
Parents’ home is on a separate Google Home account. I’m just an authorized viewer for “Anytown Home”
Neither of my homes is in the same physical town as my parents’ home. My 2nd home is in another state.
Would appreciate any insight into this weird change. The only thing I could find online pointed to uPNP. If that’s the security hole, which router of the 3 homes might it be? If it’s a Google Home hack, would it be on the Android phone used to set up my Main St and Country Club cameras? I use iOS and PC devices to view video. Husband set up the cameras using his Android phone, is the only one who signs into the Google home, and does not have access to parents’ home.
I want to plug the leak, but where to start?

Hey there,
I'm so sorry to hear about the weird issue that you are experiencing with your house's name change, and I can definitely understand the concern, but I'm happy to help.
If you're concerned about someone getting into your Google account that is not authorized to be in it, I would suggest doing a password reset so that anyone who may have access to it currently will need to know the new password moving forward to access.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Best regards,
Garrett DS
