Nest Camera recording

AA-MI

Wired Nest camera won’t record events when watching the live feed on phone. I have aware subscription. Notifications work fine. Yesterday was watching on phone as someone walked up to door. Later checked my videos and nest never recorded that event. Camera not doorbell. Has happened before.

@AA-MI

What camera is your "wired Nest camera"? The Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery) plugged in with the optional power cable, the older Google Nest Outdoor Camera, the Google Nest IQ Camera (indoor or outdoor), the older Google Nest Indoor Camera, or the newer Nest Cam (indoor, wired), or the Nest Cam with floodlight?

Do you have a Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus subscription? Was it during the day or at night?

In my experience, and judging from posts in this forum, it can make a difference.

Nest Aware. During the day. It’s an outdoor wired camera that I use indoors. I don’t have issues with it recording any other events.

@AA-MI

Well, that makes it curious. Was the event (a person walking up to the door) clear enough that you think it should have been detected and recorded as an event?

If so, and if it had happened before, as you say, maybe you've discovered a bug that affects the older Google Nest customers, where an event that is being watched live fails to get recorded on a Nest Aware subscription.

@Brad, do you have any information about such a bug?

Yea it is bothersome. Person was clear enough. That same day recorded ups delivery. Appears to be issue only when watching live stream on phone.

Hello AA-MI,

Don’t give up on us yet. Let’s sort this out — a few questions: how far is the camera from the router? What’s the make and model of your phone? Is there better lighting where the camera is installed? Are the camera notifications enabled in your Nest app settings? Also, were there any changes to your Wi-Fi network?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

JT

Hey folks,

I appreciate the help, everyone.

Thanks,

While I am not the OP I just had the same thing happen with the Nest Floodlight with Camera and wanted to contribute - I happened to be watching the live feed on my phone as an individual walked though the detection zone and this did not produce an event when similar events under similar lighting conditions have.

The camera is ~18ft from a range extender (which was installed specifically so that camera has a good signal)

I was using the Home App on a Moto G7 Supra, I have a Nest Aware subscription, person events are on and set to notify, there were no changes to the network.

i  got it in november 2020 and i have nest awere i installed it and it worked for few day and quit when ichanged my wifi and never riconected

@miranese

Seriously, your camera has been out of commission since 2020?

Google Nest's process when changing Wi-Fi networks is to remove the Google Nest device from the Google Nest app or Google Home app while still on the old Wi-Fi network, then do a factory reset, and then re-install on the new Wi-Fi network.

Unfortunately, things don't go well if you don't first remove the Google Nest device from the Google Nest app or Google Home app while still on your previous Wi-Fi network. You may have to try to contact Support (https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp) for options.
