Nest Camera (wired 2nd gen) not recognized in Google Home App

I am trying to set up a Google Nest Security Cam (Wired) - 2nd Generation. I am following the directions that came with the box.

  • Camera is plugged in
  • Select + in Google Home app
  • Set up device > New device
  • Select my home > It says looking for devices >
  • It says "Nest Wifi router found".
  • I do not have a nest wifi router so I choose "Set up a different device" > Camera > Nest Cam (indoor wired 2nd gen)
  • I scan the QR code that came with the camera and it just goes back to "Nest Wifi router found" (If I do select Yes it just says they're not supported anymore)

Not sure what to do here.

Hi thanks for replying. I was able to get the camera working by installing the Home app on my Samsung tablet instead of using my phone where I've always used the Home app. Using the QR code worked on the tablet.

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing this to me. I'd love to look into this for you. A Factory Reset can be beneficial when a typical restart doesn't quite do the trick to resolve what you're experiencing. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally. Before you factory reset your device, please be aware:

  • Your camera’s personalized settings will revert to default settings.
  • Your camera’s entire video history and snapshots will be deleted. Once your video history and snapshots are deleted, they’re gone forever. They cannot be recovered. We do not keep backups.

Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions or concerns.

Best regards,
Brad

Is it possible for the QR code on a Google Nest camera to be incorrect, such that--as this customer is reporting--scanning the QR code on a brand-new camera leads the Google Nest install process to mistakenly think that the camera is actually a Nest WiFi router?
