Nest Doorbell Slow Charging

DarKnight13

I have been using Nest Doorbell (battery) since October. The first full charge completed as expected and lasted for good 5 months. When I tried to charge again in February, it was charging really slow, it went from 9% to 24% in ~15 hours. I believed that it is just a minor glitch. Now in April, I'm at 9% and trying to charge the doorbell, it has been 5 hours and only 15% battery has been charged. I'm using the cable that I received with the camera.

It will depend on the temperature of the doorbell and the what you are plugging the other end of the cable into.  Regardless, 15 hours seems excessive. Make sure you are charging the doorbell at room temperature. Also make sure the power adapter is compatible. Google recommends 7.5 W.  Most mobile phone chargers will work.

I'm removing the camera from the mount to charge inside the home. Tried different adapters including the adapter and cable that came with the phone. None of them is helpful. Also, not even seeing the charging notification in Google Home app.

I am assuming when you say "camera" you mean "Doorbell"?  Anyway, I charge mine with the charger that came with a Pixel 2xl phone several years ago.  It takes about 4 hours to charge if mostly drained. It sounds like there may be something wrong with the battery or the device. As a very long shot you might try completely draining the battery then charge it. Maybe that will help?

Yes, Doorbell. I tried the pixel 4 and 6 chargers and none of them is working. Will try draining completely and see what happens.

I am having the same issue. I've tried multiple chargers, all charging INSIDE in room temperature. Currently I have been charging for > 24 hours and it has gone from 9% to 49%. It has always charged this slowly.

Mine got fixed after resetting the doorbell. There is a small reset hole behind the camera on top (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9252162?hl=en#zippy=%2Cnest-doorbell-battery).

I was able to charge at the normal rate after resetting. Although, yet to verify if this will fix the issue permanently or I have to do it every time I charge the camera. If it is latter then definitely it is an issue and need to report/claim to nest.

Hey folks,

How's it going with your doorbell? If you're still getting the same issue try doing the steps below and let us know how it goes.

  • Charge your camera. If possible, keep it connected to the charger until the battery is full.
  • If possible, adjust the angle of your camera to a more productive area that catches fewer unimportant activities.

Thanks,

Archie

The issue was/is that the doorbell takes 2 days+ to charge 100%. I was able to resolve it by resetting it. Will check if it charges normally or not during next charging cycle.
