Nest Doorbell (wired ) UK release for Gen 2

SteveC-4
Community Member

The wired doorbell V2 has now been available in the US for about 9 months, and despite numerous people querying this in the forum, there is still no sign of a UK release.

Nobody wants to buy the old one as this only works with the old Nest app that Google seem to be abandoning.

Is this ever going to be released outside the US?

 - or is it time to give up on the Nest product line and buy something else?

Here waiting for the same answer for The Netherlands. Indeed, maybe we should switch to another brand!

Hello everyone.

We’re glad that you're excited, but we don't have any news to share about 2nd Gen Nest Doorbell wired availability in the UK and Netherlands.

Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we’ll be locking the thread after 24 hours.

Best,
Edmond

Your answer tells us nothing other than you are excited to close down the conversation.

Why are you glad we're excited? We're the opposite of excited and are reluctantly having to look to products from alternative manufacturers.

Please take the time to read and understand the questions from the community before responding.

Surely you must have some insight into this product request - the status is surely falls into either pending consideration, actively being reviewed, in progress for delivery or declined. Can you tell us that at least?

If the request is anything other than in review or in progress then that is a satisfactory answer and tells us to invest in another product ecosystem.

Thank you.

In this post Rishi Chandra said:

"Finally, we commit to being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio."

Surely as part of this promised transparency the team could let us know what's happening with the international release of this product. If it's taking time to sort out all the various regulatory bodies, let us know. If there are other issues taking time to sort out, let us know. If you just have no plans whatsoever to release it outside of North America please let us know too. The fact that it could be announced tomorrow, could be announced next year or could just never come out is really really frustrating.

I know the usual logic is not to announce next-gen products until they are ready in order to prevent slowing sales of the current-gen but in that above blog post the existence of the wired doorbell 2nd generation was announced many many months before it was actually released for sale:

"We are excited to share that we will be launching a 2nd generation of Nest Doorbell (wired) in 2022."

so it can't be that much of an issue.  I've invested pretty heavily in Nest cameras and my ongoing Nest Aware subscription. I've held off buying a new doorbell ever since that blog post in 2021. All the reviews of the 2nd gen wired doorbell make it look like the one I want. If I know it's coming but that there are just some delays then I'm prepared to wait longer if there's at least a rough timescale.

If there's no information available for much longer then I just have to assume that outside North America is not a market that Google care about and start moving to a different ecosystem sadly which is a shame as I do generally really like it 😕

It’s unlikely that there is no clear answer about release plans for Europe or even not to release at all outside of the US. Honesty would be much appreciated!

Hi folks,

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and we understand how you feel about the availability of the Nest Doorbell (2nd gen, wired) however, we don't have any news to share when this specific product will be available in your country. Keep an eye on the Google Nest Community page https://goo.gle/2JvnMRy for any updates. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Regards,

Emerson

Hi Emerson.  Thank you for your clarification.  This is exactly the information I needed.  I therefore recommend everyone switch to Ring who sells a wide range of wired cameras and doorbells.

Thank you for your reply. It's extremely disappointing but not unexpected. I guess I'll start researching alternatives to Google Nest products 🙁

Does our feedback here get passed on (even in a summarized/collated form) to the product managers involved in making these decisions or does it just end with you?

I'd certainly like to ask Rishi Chandra if he feels that this fits with his transparency commitment too.

What’s to stop me importing one from the US & using it here in the UK?

Nothing - and that's actually the route I've taken after reading this UK based reviewer's article: https://the5krunner.com/2023/01/19/nest-doorbel-2nd-gen-review/

Doorbell has now arrived, just waiting for electrician to sort my wiring and fit a transformer that can deliver higher voltage into my consumer unit.

One thing to bear in mind that's not covered in the article is that your mileage may vary with your WiFi. This US device is certified to meet US WiFi standards, and possibly may not support certain WiFi channels available in the UK, like channel 12 and 13 on 2.4ghz. See this page for list of channels by country:

https://www.lairdconnect.com/support/faqs/what-channels-are-supported-both-24-ghz-and-5ghz-band-most...

That said, I don't fully understand the regulatory implications on device capability, but I somehow expect it'll work just fine on the additional channels.

This is what's frustrating. I've read many reviews of people successfully importing and using them in the UK so we know that they could work.

Either they're pursuing a CE mark and whatever other certifications are required or they're not. Just the answer to that question would be so helpful (I know the answer is "we have no news to share").

Really the only thing holding me back from just importing myself is whether it would have any effect on my home insurance should there be an issue that I needed to claim on.

Google sort this out ffs it is a joke, like the above I too have been waiting! If you could just give some clarity on buying them from the US installing them in the UK! Just so you know I'm one of your Nest expert installers, and deterred customers buying the wire doorbell until the 2nd Gen is released, coincidently they've opted for the RING doorbell just because they couldn't wait!

I  can't see a issue installing them in the UK,  as the Voltage is governed by the doorbell transformer. Regarding the wireless banding this can be altered on the router if necessary but not 100% that this will be a issue surely the device is capable of intercepting various  Internet connection.

GET THIS SORTED OR GIVE CLARITY ON BUYING US TO USE IN THE UK!!!!
