My Nest Doorbell (wired) has poor video quality especially around movement. Peoples faces are barely recognizable. Toggling the med/high quality setting does not seem to do anything. My upload total last month was a little over 50gb so no where near the 300 limit as spec'd on their site. Has anyone with this issue gotten a good response from an engineer?

Hi bhomesea, I'm an end user like you. I had that product for about a week and the image quality was very good. I ultimately returned and went back to the HELLO doorbell because the new one didn't work with the NEST app, didn't record 24/7 like the HELLO version and I could not view it on my computer.
If you can I would just return it as defective and get another and try it out. The only other thing I can think of is a very weak WIFI signal is causing it to send very compress video but that is only a guess. You can also try opening an official support ticket with Google. Here is the link:
