Nest Doorbell (wired) stopped working

Mr_Cross

Nest doorbell (wired) suddenly stopped working after three years. It appears offline. I’ve checked the power source. I disconnected the device and connected again, but no difference.
When I press the button the blue circle around the front button blinks once. After +/- 10 seconds again but longer. The green camera led blinks once somewhere in the process. But no sound, no WiFi connection, no camera.

I’ve tried to perform a factory reset with instructions on this page (Google support) from section “Nest Doorbell (wired)”. Followed instructions but nothing happens. I hold down the two buttons (front and the reset button with the release tool). The factory reset doesn’t seem to start.

I’ve removed the doorbell from the app and tried to install it again, but the app is unable to connect with the doorbell.

Any ideas to get it working again? It should last for more than three years right?

+1 exactly the same here since a couple of days. What router are you using?

Hi @Tubbel,

I use Ubiquiti access points. Firmware is automatically updated. I'm not convinced that the access points or router is the problem. But I've checked WiFi insights and notice that the doorbell is connecting to the WiFi! It connects every one minute (two, three or longer). The duration is also different every time (0, 2 or 6 seconds), but never longer than 6 seconds.

The thing is that the doorbell doesn't make a sound when the button is pressed. The factory reset isn't working either. I think there has been a short circuit inside the doorbell that broke the camera, wifi module and some other parts. 😞 ⚰️

I really want this doorbell back to life. Hope someone comes up with a good idea.

Hey there,

Thank you for bringing up the concern you're experiencing, I would love to look into this further for you. The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to restart your device. This process should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally.

Best regards,
Brad

Hi @Brad ,

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it and I’ve repeated the steps in the article.
When I release the button after 10 seconds the green light blinks shortly, I think that is the indication for beginning of the restart process. Unfortunately, this does not help. I still have the same symptoms. (Also disconnecting from the power doesn’t help and I keep the same symptoms.)

I notice that when I step in the direction of the doorbell the blue circle blinks. As if the detection sensor works fine.

Anyway, a reboot doesn’t help and the reset to factory default doesn’t work either. I used the button combination, but it seems that the reset process doesn’t start. I keep the same symptoms.

Do you have any ideas? Did you experience this before?

Is there a firmware update process via the mini usb connector in the back? I would like to upload some default image into the device because it might be a software or boot issue. The hardware itself seems fine.

Best regards,
Cross
