Nest Doorbell (wired) will not connect even though there is a green light. Help.

My Nest doorbell will not show a flashing blue light. I have had it for about 4 years and it just stopped working for no reason. I have tried everything. Reset/factory reset/reinstall chime. All I get is a a green light showing power so it will not connect to WIFI. I cannot find anything to help me.

Sounds like you've already tried some good steps. Google has a good article on how to troubleshoot this:

Hey there, I have seen this article already and tried all of this. Still doesn’t work.

The blue or yellow ring will not come on.

If the status light is solid green, it's connected to Wi-Fi and working normally. The light ring doesn't turn on unless the doorbell senses motion or the button is pressed.

Can you see the doorbell in the Google Home app?

When I press the button it does not light up. When I try connecting to the camera in the app it will not connect. Says to reconnect the chime because power is not getting to the camera. I know there is power because of the green light. I originally deleted the camera from the app because it wasn’t working so I was going to reconnect it. But then I ran into all these problems.

What are the specs of the transformer you have? It needs to be rated for 16-24 V AC, 10-40 VA to provide enough power.

I’m not sure but it has been running fine for over 3 years and have never had this problem. It just stopped all

of a sudden.

Okay so you have gen 1 not gen 2 as you selected, as that was only released in Oct 2022, not to worry. It definitely sounds like a power issue so I'd suggest:

  1. Check that your doorbell is still wired correctly.
  2. Check that the wires and your transformer is still providing the required power.

If you're not comfortable doing this, you may need to contact a Nest pro or a local electrician for help.

Hey everyone,

@Scibes29, thanks for getting back to us and for sharing what you’ve done to have your concern resolved.

Let’s try the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. On the Nest app home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Select Home Info, then Home Wi-Fi help.
    1. Note: If you don't find Home Wi-Fi help, you'll need to remove your camera from the app and add it back with new Wi-Fi information. You'll lose your video history, so make sure to save any important video clips before removing your camera.
  3. Select the device you want to update.
  4. Tap Start > Update settings.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions. Scan the QR code on the back of your camera when prompted.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, davidking and zoeuvre.

Regards,

Lance

Hey there,

I am unable to update this way because the camera has already been taken off the app and I cannot reinstall it without wifi connecting to it. So when I go settings/homeinfo/homewifihelp my other nest products show but not the doorbell camera.

Hi Scibes29,

I gotcha. In this case, follow the steps below:

  1. Unmount the doorbell.
  2. Hold down two buttons on your doorbell for about 10 seconds:
    1. Hold down the reset pin on the back (insert the release tool or paperclip into the hole near the top).
    2. At the same time, hold down the big doorbell button on the front.
  3. Your doorbell will chime, and its light ring will start spinning blue, then flash yellow, and then all the lights will turn off. Release the two buttons.
  4. The factory reset is complete when your camera chimes and the light ring starts slowly pulsing blue.
  5. Make sure the phone is on the same Wi-Fi network as the selected network for the Nest device.
  6. Bluetooth should be enabled, but it should not be connected to any Bluetooth devices. Disconnect any Bluetooth devices paired to your phone, such as earbuds, smartwatches, etc.
  7. Cellular data should be turned off.
  8. If you have an iOS device, tap Settings > Privacy and then Local Network. Turn on Local Network Access for the Nest app.
  9. Start adding the doorbell to the Nest app.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Lance

I have tried this already through troubleshooting articles. When I put the pin in and hold the big button at same time nothing happens. It never chimes. I have tried this ten or so times even holding for up to a minute or longer.

Hey there,

I checked the wires. All good. I tested the transformer and I’m getting good power 20.5volts consistently. Im baffled as to what is going on? Any other suggestions or is this unit done?
