Nest Hello (wired) Installation Issue (chime box not accessible)

CGH

I have a Nest Hello (wired), (where the Nest Connector is required to be wired into the chime box for continuous power) that I am trying to install in house where the chime box is not accessible. The previous owners walled over it in a remodel since they used a battery powered door cam.

The chime box however is still connected to the transformer in the basement. (Photo attached.)

Is it possible to just wire the Nest Connector directly to the transformer box in the basement for power and bypass the chime box? I realize it wouldn’t be able to “chime”, however I am fine with it just alerting the Google hub and iPhone when it rings.

If it is possible, how is that done since the wires aren’t labeled the way they are in a chime box?

Or is my only option a plug-in transformer?

Hi there,

I apologize for my late response and thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I understand how frustrating your situation must be, and I would love to help however I can. There are some options within this article that go over some of this, but honestly I would suggest you reach out to Support so that they can get you escalated if they cannot help you out.

Best Regards,

Yeah I took Brad’s suggestion and reached out to support. They basically just quoted the already published troubleshooting literature about wifi connection issues and such and weren’t able to just directly answer my question. Not sure if I was speaking to a bot but it was very little help.

I just need a simple answer— can the Nest Connector be connected directly to the transformer instead of the chime box to draw the necessary power?

Hey CGH,

Yep — you can connect the Nest Connector directly to the transformer. Check out this diagram.
