older dropcam wont start. I had it turned off in the (windows) app and when I went to turn it on it was missing. Plug was out of the wall so plugged it back in and now I have to 'reinstall'. plugging USB into win computer brings up nothing - no nest home icon.

I'm sorry to hear about that. Let's get this sorted out. What is the color of the LED lights during the install? Also, have you removed the camera from the Nest app before installing?
