Nest cam (indoor/outdoor battery) goes offline every evening

Bought this nest cam about a month ago, love the features and video quality. Nearly every evening between 8pm and 10pm the camera will go offline. The camera is about 6 ft away from wifi router and signal strength is great. I've followed the suggestions...adjusting placement, switching wifi bands, restarting camera. Restarting the camera has only worked one time, every other time required a factory reset to come back online. As a result, I've taken to completely resetting the camera every before it goes offline to ensure it works through the night. I really want to love this camera but I just can't. I need it to work consistently without my constant intervention because if I go camping for the weekend I need to know it's going to work past bedtime on day one. Help!

We have the battery camera, plugged in with the optional power cable, but haven't noticed this kind of behavior.

I have this same problem! My camera is battery, but plugged into the charger all the time. Almost every night it goes "offline" I assume because the battery is dead. I started leaving the camera alone in the morning and it does come back on by itself. I would love a solution/answer to this issue.

@amcraw16

It should not function like that.

Did you set up your battery camera as plugged in (wired) when you first installed it? (Some customers who plugged in their battery camera some time after first installing it have found they and to delete and reinstall the camera to get it to work as plugged in.)

Is your USB plug seated firmly in the bottom of the camera? Is the power cable feeding towards the FRONT of the camera? (Some customers have had problems with both of these.) When you check Settings | Battery, does it show as "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol?

We've had a battery camera for almost 2 years now, and it is always "Live" and online, and if we unplug it in order to check the battery level, it's always been between 77% and 100%.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the Nest cameras. Let’s check it out.

Have you had any chance to try the suggestions by MplsCustomer above? If yes, how was it?

Also, please check if the cameras are participating in Home/Away Routines, which can automatically turn the cameras off or on depending on the Home/Away state in the Google Home app. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Automations .
  3. Under 'Household routines', select Home or Away.
  4. Select a device that you want to edit.
  5. Device actions that you can add, remove or adjust will appear.
  6. After making the changes that you want, tap Save, then Save again. You can also tap Close near the top of the screen to discard any changes that you've made.

You may also turn off phone location sharing for use with presence sensing, so your camera will no longer switch automatically as you come and go. This is because it only uses your phone’s location to know when you leave or come home.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings and then Presence sensing.
  3. Turn Allow this home to use phone locations off.

If you have other home members, let them perform the same steps as above.

Let me know how it goes.

Here’s a handy guide to help you change the settings for Home and Away routines.

I appreciate your help, MplsCustomer and Jenelyn.

Best,

Lance
