Nest cam (indoor/outdoor battery)

I cannot find a clear answer to this anywhere.  If I buy a Nest cam (indoor/outdoor battery) and it is powered by the battery, what can I see in Google home related to the camera?  I think it does not live stream, but can I turn it on to see the live picture when I open Google Home on my phone while out of town then turn it off when I close the app?  I can NOT use the optional power cord to power it where I want to mount it.

We have had the battery camera for 22 months, plugged in with the optional power cord. However, recent posts in this forum indicate that when customers visit their battery camera while it is on battery power in the Google Home app, it now automatically activates the camera and it opens to a "Live" feed. Previously, it opened in "Idle" mode and you had to select "Live" to see a live feed. Presumably, when you close the Google Home app, the camera goes back to "Idle" mode, but there's no way for us to tell.

Thanks.  That is helpful.  Am still hoping someone that does not use the power cord (other than to charge the battery when needed) will respond.

Hi everyone,

@prmcpa, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Usually you may see the "Idle" mode of the Nest Camera. When it detects a person or motion, it will trigger the Nest Camera to record that event. You can still see the live feed and we won't recommend you to turn it off after you view it because it won't record anything. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

I appreciate your response, MplsCustomer.

Emerson

You did not answer @prmcpa 's question.

The Google Home app was recently changed so that, when customers visit their battery camera while it is on battery power in the Google Home app, it now automatically activates the camera and it opens to a "Live" feed. Previously, it opened in "Idle" mode and the customer had to select "Live" to see a live feed.

The question is, when you close the Google Home app, will the camera goes back to "Idle" mode?

Yes.  @EmersonB .  The question is now  when you close the Google Home app, will the camera goes back to "Idle" mode?

Hello prmcpa,

You are correct. Also, regardless if you close or open your Google Home app, your Nest Camera would go on idle when it's not detecting any events and when it's running on battery.

Best,

Emerson

No more help needed.  I bought the cameras and they are working great on battery power.
