Nest camera keeps sending false vehicle alerts

Voxman
Community Member

I've tried to ignore the persistent false vehicle alerts but I'm finally fed up with nuisance alerts. It does no good to be be alerted if there isn't a vehicle in my immediate driveway. I don't get hardly any false alerts in daytime but they do occur. One of the main reasons I got camera is to alert me when a vehicle comes into driveway. Since I can't trust the camera to accurately do this, it's fails miserably in its operation.
I've set a tight zone around garage driveway area but problem persists. The camera does not alert me when cars go by on the street.
Is this problem fixable? It's been going on for the last year or so but it's finally reached a point that I can't depend on camera to alert me properly. Unfortunately I have little faith that this issue can be resolved but hope by some miracle I'm wrong.

thanks

Gary

I've got the newer outdoor battery cams wired to power - same issue. Been at least 2 months every single thing the camera sees is a vehicle, as if it's ignoring zones completely. I've reset them, shrunk zones, doesn't matter. Pretty sure it's firmware related since events on these cams are created on-device

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this, as I can imagine it has been an inconvenience. I would love to look into this further for you. I believe that activity zones will help you out in this situation. You can learn more about them here. I hope you find the article helpful!

Best regards,
Brad

Well Brad, as I described in my message that I have set up a zone however the problem isn’t really related to zone coverage.

The problem is the camera software sending false alerts. When I check the alert that it sends, there isn’t anything there at all… nothing in the recording that even has movement and especially NO VEHICLES moving anywhere. It’s like the camera is seeing “ghosts” which I can assure you there are not. Nothing there.
So with that being said, perhaps you can concentrate on the fact camera is sending false alerts and labeling them a vehicle.
Your turn.
Respectfully
Gary

Hey folks,

Thanks for following up. We appreciate your efforts here. Let’s sort this out — a few questions: when did the issue start? What’s the make and model of your phone? Also, were there any changes in the settings of your Nest or Google Home app?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Restart your Nest camera.
    • Plug the camera into a power source.
    • Locate the reset button at the back of the camera.
    • Press and hold for 5 seconds.
    • Your camera will restart, and the status light will be steady, solid white.
  2. Restart your modem or router, unplug it from the power outlet for 1 to 2 minutes. Then, plug it back in.
  3. Ensure your Activity Zones don’t overlap with one another. Remove and create new Activity Zones.
  4. For Android devices, go to System settings > Sounds and notification > App notifications > Nest or Google Home and follow the configuration below.
    • Block all is disabled.
    • Allow peeking is enabled.
  5. For iOS devices, go to Settings > Notifications > Nest or Google Home and follow the configuration below.
    • Allow notifications is enabled.
    • You may disable any or all notification options.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the help, Brad.

Thanks,

JT

Dearest JT or whoever this is going to,

NO!!! There hasn't been a single useful piece of advice yet that pertains to my problem.
Unfortunately whenever I try to respond to these emails, I get a message telling me that the email I tried to send wasn't deliverable! So how am I supposed to communicate with you folks?

Just an update on replying here.... I was trying to reply to the emails I received. It didn't occur to me that I had to do the replying here.

And yes I've already done all that monkey business trying to eliminate the stupid false "vehicle" alerts when there is NOTHING AT ALL THERE IN THE VIDEO.

Hello everyone,

@Voxman we got your form — thanks for filling it out. Our team will reach out to you via email to further assist you. Please continue the conversation there to avoid confusion here.

@Spaghetti69 thanks for getting back to us. For you to not receive unwanted notification outside your activity zone, all you have to do is to disable the categories under the outside of zone option.

Give these steps a try:

  • Open your Google Home app.
  • Select your Nest Camera.
  • Go to settings> events> seen events> outside of zone> disable the categories there.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Emerson

Hey Voxman,

Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.

I have... 6 nest indoor outdoor battery cams, 3 spotlights, and the 2022 nest doorbell wired, and run a pure router nest wifi setup with Ethernet backhaul. I've tried factory reset on both cams and nest wifi, I've tried tightening my zones, all that stuff. This changes nothing, I still get notifications about every car that drives by my house even though they are in a zone that's not supposed to be notifying me, any time of day. I'm also on symmetrical gigabit fiber with absolutely no non-google routing before you go thinking it's my internet. I've already vested thousands of dollars and days of labor into this ecosystem, Google will either fix it before I need to replace equipment or Google will be removed from my home.
