Nest cameras and doorbell have no audio on Android

Jamesy
Community Member

I have Nest cameras and doorbell. I watch through multiple mediums like my phone and tablet through the HOME APP. I've never had any issues with the audio.

However my android recently got updated as did Google HOMEAPP and now I can't hear audio when I'm watching video or doorbell.

I've been in the nest setting to make sure microphone was on. It is. I also checked and rebooted my phone and cameras and couldn't find any resolution.

Please help

Since "Blueqoull" locked my previous thread because hes an idiot, I'll just repost it again....

Whenever I try to monitor my cameras via my phone, the sound activates in "in-call' so I can barely hear it. Obviously this is a well documented issue, yet no one at Google has seemed to come up with a solution. Do I need to throw these junk ass cameras away and go with a better brand or is Google going to fix the issue?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the additional information. We're still working on this. For everybody who hasn't tried making sure the media call volume is set to max, earbuds or Bluetooth headphones aren't being used. And trying it when there´s no active call in the background. Please try it now and let us know if the issue persists.

I look forward to your responses.

Thanks,

Renz

Hey everyone,

We apologize if this is taking longer than expected. Thank you for your patience with us. Google Home App 3.10 was rolled out yesterday for Android devices. Please check for an update on your Google Home app and let us know if the issue persists.

Best,

Renz

I have the same problem, I can't hear anything when I'm watching live and recorded

I'm having the same issue when watching live. I can hear when playing back a recorded event, just not during live. My husband has an iPhone and doesn't have this problem.

Same issue can only hear on playback

Same! iPhone is loud and clear and my S22 Ultra is so quiet, have to put it up to my ear and still have trouble hearing what they say.  My old Wyze cam may be delayed but at least I could hear the person lol

If you search back thru this forum you will see a  number of people have had this same issue.  You may find some answers there.  You can also open a support ticked (link below) and answer the questions and you will be able to speak with an actual Google Nest support person and see if they can get you going.  If they do please report back here and let everyone know how it got solved.

I have seen the other posts and saw no answers.  I believe it needs Google Home developers to update their app to the new version(s) of Android that come out

The best thing is to open a support ticket with the above link and see if they can help.  short of that you can also use the FEEDBACK  option in the APP to report the problem.

Just left feedback, this just started happening. Got to be an update soon to fix this. Seems it's happening with a lot of people and tried just about everything suggested and still no audio with live video.

Great you left feedback. But I still think it is worth it to open a support ticket which will let you talk to a google tech person....

here is the link

https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Called and went through a lot of things but same issue. They got phone devices info and screen shots. Seems that I get audio with being on phone call but soon as I end a phone call and tap on live video still get no sound.

Well,,, good you did that as a last ditch effort to push this forward.   Hopefully they get back to you soon with a fix.  But at least you have it on their radar now.

I went via support also so as the Google Home Developmemt Team are not 24x7 I am awaiting a callback.

My camera s work as normal on other devices just not Android v13 and OneUI v5.1

Ever since the new Googe Home update this is the root cause as it seems

Try that link that EmptyNester gave above. Just fill it out and they will call you. When I did we went though a few but mainly all was already tried, so they sent me over to their tech team to get version of phone and all that info.

Already have provided further details to suppprt, plus phone versions and hardware.

As stated, other versions of Android, desktops, Apple etc all work.  It is an issue with Google Home and the latest Android 13

At this rate I want a refund as no response is recieved

When viewing live camera I have no sound. When viewing play back on the video the sound kicks on halfway through the video. Had Google nest cameras for a while and never had these issues. I've made sure all microphones are on.. the access is granted. This just started.

Can we get some help on this. It looks like it's happening to many people with Android.

Yes this is happening to me as well

Has anyone got any feedback or results in fixing this?

My issue is the audio comes out through the phones ear piece and not the speaker phone.

Has anyone reached out to Google? Did open a feedback forum but haven't did a call.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, did this issue occur out of the box? Is the audio issue persistent or intermittent? Is the camera in a case or housing? Hold the mobile device near the camera and make sure both devices are connected to the same network. Then run a network speed test. What are the results of the test?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Check the Google Home app or Nest app permissions:
    1. For Android users: Go to the phone’s Settings Apps Google Home or Nest Permissions, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
    2. For iOS users: Go to the device’s Settings Google Home or Nest Permission, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  2. Test if your device’s microphone is working.
  3. Open your default voice recorder app or any other app that uses your device’s microphone and test the device’s microphone on the app.
  4. Check if the device is connected to a Bluetooth device that may be serving as the microphone.

To learn more, you may visit our public article about “Talk and listen with Nest camera or doorbell”.

Best,

Emerson

Yes these are the basics that was tried when calling support. Gave case number and info for the Android v13 update. People still have no sound when viewing live video.

It's none of mentioned basics that have helped fix this issue. We all still have no sound when viewing live video.
