Nest doorbell notifications not always working on my phone

Hi all - So since I've had this doorbell I've always found the notifications spotty for me, on both the doorbell being pressed and the camera picking people up. This is across two different phones, including one which never had a problem for a previous owner (who's phone I now have).

The camera records everything, so when I open the app up, I can see the full history. But with no rhyme or reason it just doesn't always notify my phone.

As I say, this is across two phones, and I've tried restarting the phones, the app, and the doorbell. I've tried having the app open in the background the whole time, but that doesn't work. Sometimes I'll just get a barrage of alerts, a bit like they've been bottlenecked and then suddenly released.

My wife is on the same home network and always gets alerts.

I'm about to add a bunch of other cameras to the account and will see how we get on. I hope I don't have the same issue as it's not a very secure camera if I don't get alerts 😞

UPDATE: Installed two indoor cameras and one outside camera and all pinging me alerts without issue.

Hi Sharmalino,

I'm sorry that you have to experience this. Let's get this sorted — a few questions: when did you first notice the issue? Are you an Android or iPhone user? Do you have the Nest Hello doorbell(wired) or the Nest Doorbell Battery? Have you tried turning on the camera notifications in your Nest app settings?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Turn off all notification settings in the Home app or Nest app and double check if the Web app has the same settings.
  2. Sign out of the Nest account on all devices it's signed into, including computers.
    • iOS
      1. Delete the app.
      2. Restart the phone.
      3. Reinstall app.
    • Android
      1. Clear the app's cache.
      2. Restart the phone.
      3. Reinstall app.

After reinstalling your Nest app check these settings:

  • Background app refresh is on.
  • Do Not Disturb is off.
  • The app and phone OS are up-to-date

      3. Sign in and turn all notification settings back on. If needed, double check if the Nest web app has the same settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

JT
