Nest doorbell peeling and not connecting on ring

I have a wired gen 1 nest doorbell that the face is peeling off around the lens and ring button. In addition to that whenever someone rings the bell it takes 45+ seconds for the camera to connect and often the person that rang has already moved on. Normally I am able to view the camera except when someone rings the bell? It's getting very frustrating. I've already reset the doorbell, changed networks, nothing seems to fix this issue.

@bri9x1

I think you are encountering two issues with your Google Nest Hello Doorbell that we (and many others) have also encountered.

First, the Google Nest Hello Doorbell has an internal battery that most of us didn't know about. When it fails, the doorbell goes offline for about a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed, because the purpose of the internal battery is to provide power to the doorbell and its camera during the instant when the doorbell button is pressed and power is diverted to the indoor doorbell chime. If you turn off the  doorbell's"Indoor chime" option, the doorbell will no longer try to ring your indoor doorbell chime, but the doorbell will remain online. We have done this with all three of our Google Nest Hello Doorbells, and have instead turned on the "Visitor announcements" option (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451) to get announcements on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini. This thread on this issue has over 1,000 replies:

Second, two of our three Google Nest Hello Doorbells are peeling, so we purchased silicone "skins" on Amazon to cover the peeling shards. There are MANY posts in this forum about this issue as well.

thank you @MplsCustomer .  Interesting that it did work after I made those changes but then when I tried a few moments later I didn't get any notification when ringing the doorbell. The google home and hub both announced that someone was at the door but I didn't get an alert on my cell.

@bri9x1

Google Nest's cameras and doorbells all have some sort of undocumented cool-down period that varies from one device to another, so I think if you press your doorbell button several times (or trigger multiple people or motion events) within a few minutes , you may not get notifications for any subsequent events that  occur right after the first one.  On our cameras and doorbells, we don't seem to get multiple notifications from the same camera and doorbell within a few minutes time.
