Nest doorbell transformer

Hi All,

I have bought a nest wired doorbell(gen 2). I have a transformer lying around which says Step Down Transformer Copper Winding 220V AC to 24V AC (24V 0.5A 500mA), Can you please let me know if I can use this transformer? By the way, I am from India and the voltage here is 220v at 50/60Hz. Thanks in advance

Hello csakthikumar,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m happy to help you with your questions. Let’s check them out.

For the Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd Gen), you’ll need a transformer that is rated for 16–24 V AC and 10–40 VA to provide enough power to your doorbell.

Your transformer is rated at 24 V 0.5 A (0.5 A is equivalent to 500 mA). To find the power rating in VA, multiply 24V by 0.5A, which is 12 VA. This is within the recommended range. Keep in mind that if the transformer can’t ring your indoor chime due to high wiring impedance, you may need to upgrade your transformer (40 VA max).

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Lance
