Nest outdoor cam history scrolling broken

Jordan1007
Community Member

I have a wired nest cam outdoor and a nest cam floodlight, as well as a nest cam indoor. Until today, when I went to go review each camera’s full history from the app, I could scroll through the feed and it would update in real time - meaning as I scrolled through, I could see different people coming/going throughout the day, different events happening, etc which would let me go through and search for something that may have happened. At some point in the last day or two, the app stopped allowing that - now when I try to scroll through history, I either get a frozen screen for a few seconds until it updates, or an image like what’s shown in the link below. What happened here? This was an extremely useful part of these cameras - without it, if the camera misses an event, it’s virtually impossible to go back through the feed to find it unless you have the exact time stamp.

I’m assuming this must be an app bug, because when I try the same thing in the legacy nest app (my indoor cam is a legacy cam), the scrolling history feature works just fine. Anyone have any ideas? If this is permanent, i’m going to be making a permanent switch.

Hi everyone.

This issue has been escalated but I have a few questions and some troubleshooting-

Can you reply if you are on iOS or Android? Which OS version?

Are you viewing from Google Home app or via web?

If you leave public preview in the Google Home app, do you still have this issue?

Double check if you got the latest Google Home app for those of you on iOS. It's currently rolling out but you can download it from the app store. The build is 3.30.102 fyi

If you could reply with answers to these I can send them over to the Google team-

Thank you all!

Jill

It’s 100% the app and it’s been like this for weeks …ffs why has it not been fixed yet

Such poor customer service. All 4 cameras timeline has not worked in 3 weeks.  I want a credit to my bill when this is fixed. I sent screenshots to this person I chatted with but they still wanted me to factory reset 4 cameras AGAIN. I have used instructions posted. This chat person says there are no escalations on this issue and THERE IS!! I JUST WANT A CREDIT TO MY BILL WHEN THIS IS RESOLVED. ITS AN APP ISSUE NOT A CAMERA ISSUE. Extremely annoying. I pay my bill each year. Never late. Loyal customer.

I've had this problem for the last three weeks.  I opened a ticket last week and they had me jump through the same hoops as everyone else here.  They never let on that this is a widespread issue.

Lol yup. Whenever I start up a tech troubleshooting ticket I know I am wasting my time with these people. Google is laughable honestly ...multibillion dollar company and hire people that barely know how to read a script.

Google worth $2.1 Trillion and can’t even fix their App? They are giving us all the run around with their text book procedures, update the App, restart this, check WiFi…etc.

The root cause of the problem is the Google Home App!!! Or their servers are glitching out? The Nest App always worked flawlessly, never an issue with scrubbing until Google took over.

If only the Aqara G5 camera had 24/7 recordings without an NVR, I would leave Google in a heart beat.

Yup...this is why I hate monopolies almost as much as I hate the IRS. They buy up companies for the patents so they can gatekeep progress and horde money and cant fix simple issues then INSULT their customers with ignorant A-hole reps who give you stupid script replies like "try restarting" This is 100% an app software or server side issue. All they have to do is be transparent and announce that and say we are working on it and fix it in a timely fashion and give a small credit back to everyone and BOOM problem solved. This is what happens when you allow fools to be at the top of the chain.

Hi all,

Thank you for providing additional details about the issue you're experiencing with camera history scrubbing on iOS. Our team is actively investigating and we appreciate your patience in the meantime. We'll share more information as soon as we can.

Thank you.

looks like they saw my post about transparency lol

Thank you, but why did it take 3 weeks to address this issue? I hope it will be resolved quickly now that GoogleNestTeam is aware of it.

My app is working now. Is anyone else's? I hadn't checked since earlier today, but for now I can scroll.

Nope. It worked for a little bit but if you keep scrolling it starts acting up again. Freezes and has the glitch screen

I should have been more clear. I can scroll back from earlier today, but the overnight (last night and this morning) and prior still glitches. From this afternoon forward it seems to be working.

yea i see what you mean. It looks like sometime in the late afternoon it works.

Hi,

You seemed to fix something?
Scrubbing seems to be working without glitches for many of us?

Any update? 🙂

for me recent history works but "sluggish" but going back to a certain point doesnt work

Why is it the image on Google Home always gets low quality while scrubbing...Nest app never did this...

Amazing how quickly the problem was resolved once it got into the right hands……

Seems like it is functioning as it used to work.

That’s interesting. It does seem to be working now.

Not 100% for me. It scrolled some and then stopped

I went back 10 days. So far mine is working on every day with no glitches.  I am on iPhone 15 Pro latest iOS. 🤞 I have tried it a few different times and seems to be OK.

Unfortunately mine still doesn’t.

I checked my iPad Pro this morning as well. It seems to be back to normal … currently.

lol "currently" we already know they gonna mess up again which is sad.

Last night I scrolled from my live shot back to older timeframes. It worked. This morning, I did the same and scrolling works. However, when I select History, go back to a prior date (3/8), then got to a specific time, scrolling is not working. It retains the image from the time you last viewed; there is no movement in what you’re viewing. It just retains the image of your last time viewed. Not fixed. (iPad Gen 6 iOS 17.7.5)

yup still had the wipeout and freeze. regular scrolling seems to be OK but not 100% yet. Also one thing I hate is how the image on Google Home always gets low quality while scrubbing...Nest app never did this...

Although I didn’t get the pixelation “wipeout” while scrubbing at 3:00 AM CDT (3.5 hrs ago), the problem is NOT fixed.

Both my floodlight cams also seem to be working as they used to. I can go back scrubbing about 24 hours without anymore issues. Hopefully this problem is resolved.

mine is sluggish but at least there is movement

I can scroll through the history if it took place after about 9am yesterday, 3/10, the 2-3 weeks prior to that time I can't. Will that be restored? Thank you.

likewise

Mine doesnt work past a certain point, also the scrubbing is a little "sluggish" and the quality is degraded while scrubbing. Its like it goes from HD to SD

This is a problem I currently have.
